Windows XP Media Center Edition (MCE) is a multimedia-oriented release of Windows XP, which was originally released on 29 October 2002. A spin-off of the Professional edition, it is the first release of Windows to include Windows Media Center, a digital video recorder and media player application.

With the release of Windows Vista, Windows Media Center became a built-in application in the Home Premium and Ultimate editions, eliminating the need for a separate edition; the practice persisted through Windows 7. Media Center was subsequently deprecated in Windows 8, and was made an optional, paid addition via the Pro Pack,[1] before being removed entirely during the Windows 10 development cycle.
