Windows Essential Business Server 2008 R2 (codenamed Cascades and additionally referred to as simply "v2") was the canceled successor to Windows Essential Business Server 2008. It is only referenced in a Microsoft TechNet blog post published on 7 April 2010, stating that the product was canceled due to "external factors,"[1] most possibly a general lack of interest from individual businesses and organizations that stemmed from the original Essential Business Server release.
The operating system is based on Windows Server 2008 R2. Currently, only one build of EBS 2008 R2 is known to exist.
Compared to Windows Essential Business Server 2008, the number of EBS v2 installation images has increased from 1 to 5. There are four editions of EBS 2008 R2, three of which (Virtual Host, Messaging, Security) share a common product key.
