Windows Essential Business Server 2008 R2 (known in development as Windows Essential Business Server v2, abbreviated as EBS v2) was a canceled project that was originally planned to be the next generation of Windows Essential Business Server 2008. This operating system is only mentioned on the Technet blog, and in a post titled "Our Technical Findings While Developing EBS v2", published on 7 April 2010, it was mentioned that "due to external factors, EBS v2 was not released to the public".[1] It is known that the codename of this canceled operating system is "Cascades". It is based on Windows Server 2008 R2.

Changes[edit | edit source]

Compared to Windows Essential Business Server 2008, the number of EBS v2 installation images has increased from 1 to 5. EBS v2 simplifies the number of keys: now there are only two key sets in the system, the Management Server uses one set of keys, and the Virtual Host Server, the Messaging Server and the Security Server use common keys.

Installation images[edit | edit source]

EBS v2 consists of five DVDs:

  1. Host Planning and Configuration Tools
  2. Virtual Host Server installation
  3. Management Server installation
  4. Messaging Server installation
  5. Security Server installation
