Windows Embedded 7 is a family of Windows 7-based operating systems developed by Microsoft. The Windows Embedded 7 Operating System line consists of Windows Embedded Standard 7 and Windows Embedded POSReady 7. These operating systems were released in April 2010 and September 2011 respectively.

In a similar fashion to the previous release of Windows Embedded, there are two variants of Windows Embedded 7:

  • Windows Embedded Standard 7: This OS is intended for use in embedded industry systems like ATMs and devices for the healthcare and manufacturing industries.
  • Windows Embedded POSReady 7: This OS is intended for use in Point of Sales machines like cash registers, ATMs and self service checkouts.

Since these operating systems are lightweight and intended to be used in embedded systems, most features that are found in the original release of Windows 7 are removed due to them having no needs for embedded use.
