Windows Mobile 6.5 is a version of Windows Mobile, which was released on 11 May 2009. It includes some new notable features, such as a revamped GUI, a new Today screen resembling that of the Zune portable media players, and a version of Internet Explorer 6 for mobile with an improved interface.
Editions[edit | edit source]
Windows Mobile 6.5 has introduced the new "Windows Embedded Handheld" edition lineup, intended for pocket embedded devices, such as barcode scanners, alongside the main "Windows Mobile" lineup. Additionally, the "Classic" edition for PDAs without GSM compatibility was removed from the main Mobile lineup.
The following editions of Windows Mobile 6.5 were released:
- Standard - This edition was intended for feature phones without a touch screen.
- Professional - The highest-tier edition, was intended for PDAs.
- Starter - Was introduced 10 months after the final release and officially branded as "Windows Phone 6 Starter", had slight limitations in terms of functionality, notably removing 3G compatibility.
The following editions of Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5 were also released:
- Classic
- Professional
The editions are identical, except for the lack of GSM compatibility in the Classic variant.[1]
