macOS Catalina (10.15) is a version of macOS that was released on 7 October 2019. This version drops support that devices can update by replacing the graphic cards from OpenGL to Metal.

This version does not support 32-bit macOS applications. It is also the last version of macOS to use the major version number of 10. Most builds of Catalina were compiled for x86_64 (for public use) and ARM64 (for testing purposes for the transition to Apple Silicon, which would continue until the announcement in 2020). It is the first version of macOS to fully drop support for OpenGL compositing in the compositor library (SkyLight.framework).
