macOS Mojave, or macOS 10.14, is the fifteenth major release of macOS that was released on 24 September 2018. It was announced on 4 June 2018 at WWDC. This version introduces some enhancements to the user interface, including a new system-wide dark mode.
This is the final version of macOS to support 32-bit applications, as well as OpenGL-fallback composition in the compositor library (SkyLight.framework).
New features and changes[edit | edit source]
- System-wide dark mode (OS X Yosemite introduced dark mode, but only for the dock and menu bar).
- Dynamic wallpapers, which change based on the time of day.
- New accent colors, adding on to the existing "Blue" and "Graphite" options for the first time since Mac OS X Cheetah.
- Option that displays recently used applications in the dock if they aren't already pinned.
- Desktop stacks for organizing files.
- Continuity Camera for quickly taking and importing photos from an iPhone.
- Gallery view (replaces Cover Flow), quick actions, and metadata preview pane in Finder.
- Group FaceTime (Initially delayed).
- Screenshot (replaces Grab).
- A redesigned App Store, similar to the one found in iOS 11.
- The News, Stocks, Voice Memos, and Home apps from iOS 12 were added.
- Software Updates moved to System Preferences after being part of the App Store since OS X Mountain Lion.
- Removed social media integration for sharing files.
- Redesigned DVD Player.
- APFS Fusion Drives.
- Metal 2 and CoreML 2.

macOS Mojave is officially compatible with the following Macs:
- iMac (Late 2012 and later)
- iMac Pro (2017)
- MacBook (Early 2015 and later)
- MacBook Air (Mid 2012 and later)
- MacBook Pro (Mid 2012 and later)
- Mac mini (Late 2012 and later)
- Mac Pro (Late 2013; Mid 2010 and Mid 2012 with Metal-capable graphics card)
Support for the following hardware has been removed:
- Intel processors without SSE4.2
- Although the Mach kernel is compatible with Intel processors without SSE4.2, the AMD GPU drivers now require the POPCNT and PCMPGTQ instructions, which are part of the SSE4.2 instruction set.
- Non-Metal GPUs
