Windows 11 build 27718 is the second available build of Selenium, the 25H2 development semester of Windows as a service. It was released to the Windows Insiders in the Canary Channel on 2 October 2024.

New features and changes[edit | edit source]

Features[edit | edit source]

The following features and changes introduced previously have been gradually rolled out:

  • Support of first letter navigation on the taskbar (initially implemented in build 22635.3930)
  • Performance improvements to Narrator's scan mode (initially implemented in build 22635.3930)
  • The updated media controls on the lock screen (initially implemented in build 22635.4082)
  • New section under Bluetooth & devices > Touch in the Settings app for configurating touch screen edge gestures (initially implemented in build build 22635.4145)
  • Updates to the account manager in Start menu (initially implemented in build 22635.4145 and can be activated manually by enabling the 50564196 velocity staging key)
  • The "You're offline. Widgets are unavailable." message at the bottom of the lock screen when there's no Internet connection (initially implemented in build 22635.4145)
  • The SimSun-ExtG font which support CJK Unified Ideographs Extensions G, H and I (initially implemented in build 22635.4145)
  • The ability to share content to Notepad and Clipchamp directly from the Windows Share flyout (initially implemented in build 22635.4145 and can be activated manually by enabling the 50968699 velocity staging key)
  • The ability to hide the Chinese and Japanese IME toolbar when apps are in full-screen mode (initially implemented in build 22635.4145 and can be activated manually by enabling the 52303419 velocity staging key)
  • The ability to show a pop-up notification for asking users to plug in laptop if the battery level reaches 20% while Energy Saver is set to "Always On" (initially implemented in build 26120.1340)
  • Update to the logic for the "Press the lower right corner of the touchpad to right-click" toggle switch under Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad in the Settings app so it shouldn't show in cases where the touchpad doesn't support the functionality (initially implemented in build 26120.1843)

The following features and changes introduced previously have also been ported to this build, albeit being disabled by default:

  • New functionality to show a basic tooltip with app name when hovering on an app within the category view of Start menu's All apps list (initially implemented in build 22635.4082 and can be activated manually by enabling the 47205210 and 49221331 velocity staging keys)
  • Small tweaks to the list view dropdown menu in Start menu's All apps list (initially implemented in build 22635.4082 and can be activated manually by enabling the 47205210 and 49221331 velocity staging keys)
  • The ability to show user account picture next to user name of any OneDrive file under File Explorer's Home page and the Details pane (initially implemented in build 22635.4225 and can be activated manually by enabling the 45130483 and 48895801 velocity staging keys)
  • The new section under Personlization > Text input for configuring the Copilot key on keyboard (initially implemented in build 22635.4225 and can be activated manually by enabling the 52608608 velocity staging key)
  • The "Send to My Phone" option in the context menu for quickly sharing content to an Android device (initially implemented in build 22635.4225 and can be activated manually by enabling the 45286369 and 52800817 velocity staging keys)

Shell[edit | edit source]

Small design improvements (including updates to the icon sizes and spacing) have been made to the dialog that opens if there's something that needs attention before proceeding with a Windows update.

Settings[edit | edit source]

A chart legend has been added below the battery usage graph under System > Power & battery. This feature is disabled by default, but can be activated manually by enabling the 45643758 velocity staging key.

Miscellaneous[edit | edit source]

The enhanced privilege protection for Admin Approval Mode, initially implemented in build 26040, has been updated to Administrator protection. It provides an additional layer of protection against malware and other threats by isolating sensitive data and processes. The User Account Control elevation prompt has also been changed to reflect this feature. Administrator protection is disabled by default, but can be enabled manually by setting the "UAC: Configure type of Admin Approval Mode" policy under Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options to "Admin Approval Mode with Administrator protection."

Bugfixes[edit | edit source]

General[edit | edit source]

  • Fixed an issue that was causing a hang at the boot screen and roll back with the 0xc1900101 error when upgrading to build 27695.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing sporadic explorer.exe crashes when moving windows around in builds 27686 and 27695.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing a SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION bugcheck in builds 27686 and 27695.
  • Fixed a high hitting wmiprvse.exe crash in builds 27686 and 27695.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing certain apps (such as Media Player) to crash when playing audio in builds 27686 and 27695.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing the boot menu to not render correctly on dual boot devices, such as wrong color or display in half the available space.

Input[edit | edit source]

Fixed an issue that was causing the emoji panel to close when trying to switch to the kaomoji and symbols sections, or after selecting an emoji.

Taskbar[edit | edit source]

Fixed an issue that was resulting in the Widgets icon unexpectedly displaying on the taskbar twice sometimes.

Bugs and quirks[edit | edit source]

  • Enrolling to the Windows Insider Program on a new Copilot+ PC may cause Windows Hello PIN and biometrics to fail with the 0xd0000225 ("Something went wrong, and your PIN isn't available") error.
  • Text on highlighted items in Microsoft Management Console and some of its snap-ins may have a yellow color.
  • Purchased content may not be played correctly in the Movies & TV app.
  • The emoji panel and clipboard history may not open in certain Win32 surfaces, including in Microsoft Management Console, MSConfig and Registry Editor.
