Windows 11 build 26244 is a build of Germanium, the 24H2 development semester of Windows as a service. It was released to the Windows Insiders in the Canary Channel on 28 June 2024 alongside its server counterpart.

New features and changes[edit | edit source]

File Explorer[edit | edit source]

The blue thin border around the selected area when selecting items in the Home page, initially implemented in build 22635.3646, has been ported to this build.

Settings[edit | edit source]

The change that redirects links for the Fonts applet in Control Panel to the Personalization > Fonts page, initially implemented in build 26200, has been gradually rolled out.
The Game Pass recommendation card under the Home page, initially introduced in build 22635.3500, has been ported to this build.
The new banner with a "Add now" button for urging users to add a recovery email address under the Account page, initially implemented in build 22635.3500, has been ported to this build.

Windows Backup[edit | edit source]

The ability to backup and restore sound settings (including chosen sound scheme) via the Windows Backup app, initially implemented in build 22635.3420, has been ported to this build.

Bugfixes[edit | edit source]

Fixed the underlying issue that was causing the PcaSvc.dll error with the message "Missing entry: PcaWallpaperAppDetect" after upgrading from Windows 11 2022 Update or Windows 11 2023 Update to recent Germanium builds.
Fixed the issue that was causing explorer.exe to crash with the 0xc0000005 access violation exception when togging on the "Show recently used files" option under Folder Options if the visual improvements to the Home page (previously introduced in build 26241) have been enabled.

Bugs and quirks[edit | edit source]

Users may be unable to perform an in-place upgrade to this build via Windows Update in builds 26040, 23620 and earlier due to a deadlock that occurs during the initial preparation process.
Text on highlighted items in Microsoft Management Console and some of its snap-ins may have a yellow color.
The colors in the Performance section on Task Manager may not display correctly in dark mode.
Text in the Windows Update page in the Settings app may not display correctly when using certain languages.
Attempting to use Voice typing may cause errors with certain languages such as Chinese in certain cases.
