New features and changes[edit | edit source]
Recall[edit | edit source]
The Recall feature, initially implemented in build 26227, has been removed from the operating system due to its overall controversial nature, in particular the lackluster security measures taken to "protect" the Recall history database and missing consent options present in the out-of-box experience and in its Settings page.
File Explorer[edit | edit source]
The visual improvements to the Home page, initially implemented in build 22635.3640, have been ported to this build. These changes are disabled by default, but can be activated manually by enabling the 45130483
and 48433719
velocity staging keys.
[edit | edit source]
- A new companion panel has been added next to the Start menu for managing Android mobile devices that are connected via the Phone Link app. The Phone Link app version 1.24052.124.0 (or higher) is required for this feature to work. This change is disabled by default, but can be activated manually by enabling the
48433719
and48697323
velocity staging keys. - The grid view of All apps list in Start menu, initially implemented in build 22635.3420, has been ported to this build. This feature is disabled by default, but can be activated manually by enabling the
47205210
(withvariant
parameter set to 2) and48433719
velocity staging keys.
Shell[edit | edit source]
- The background color of flashing app icons on the taskbar has been changed to make it more visible (from
#FDE7E9
to#E9AFAA
in light mode, and from#442726
to#7F434A
in dark mode). - The underlying logic when suggesting turning off notifications for certain apps has been updated to require a longer period of time without engaging with notifications from that app in order to trigger.
Settings[edit | edit source]
A new energy recommendation "Turn off HDR to conserve energy" has been added. This feature is disabled by default, but can be activated manually by enabling the 49607261
velocity staging key.
Bugfixes[edit | edit source]
- Fixed an underlying issue that was causing File Explorer to crash when going to the Home page.
- Fixed an issue where when opening the Settings app within Windows Sandbox, it would show a check for Windows updates option even though the Windows Update page didn't show.
Bugs and quirks[edit | edit source]
- Users may be unable to perform an in-place upgrade to this build via Windows Update in builds 26040, 23620 and earlier due to a deadlock that occurs during the initial preparation process.
- Text on highlighted items in Microsoft Management Console and some of its snap-ins may have a yellow color.
- Togging on the "Show recently used files" option under Folder Options may cause
explorer.exe
to crash with the0xc0000005
access violation exception. This issue will only apply if the aforementioned visual improvements to the Home page have been enabled. - The Windows Update page in the Settings app may appear blank except for a red banner and More options section in certain languages.
- The colors in the Performance section on Task Manager may not display correctly in dark mode.
