Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 build 282 is the official RTM build of Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 based on Windows XP Service Pack 3, which was released on 12 January 2009[1]. This build also includes Windows Media Player 11 and Internet Explorer 7, alongside the Embedded theme that replaces Luna. It also lacks many components of Windows XP, such as Paint, Games, and Windows Product Activation.
Bugs and quirks[edit | edit source]
- This version of Windows contains less fonts, resulting in the Start button to use Arial as fallback instead.
- Standard user accounts cannot be created through Control Panel.
netplwiz.exe
must be used instead. - Help and Support is partially broken: the home screen displays properly, but it identifies itself as Windows XP Professional and topics cannot show their content and links.
- The Accessibility Control Panel is mostly a placeholder in this version since no accessibility tools are available, and trying to open the Accessibility Wizard, Magnifier and On-Screen Keyboard will result in an "Windows couldn't find the file" error, while trying to open high-contrast settings does nothing.
- In the logon screen, the visual style is set to Luna, which is not actually included in the operating system, resulting in falling back to the Windows Classic visual style instead.
