Windows 8 build 7793 is a build of Windows 8. Five screenshots of this build were included with the original upload of build 7746 on 3 May 2020. The x64 compile of the build was shared online on 18 August 2024. The x86 version was later shared on 31 October 2024.

The Start screen in this build is now significantly less buggy compared to 7791 and the search is now fully functional, although with history instead of suggestions and a different icon, and multi-monitor support is similar to 7814.

Its Driver Development Kit was mentioned within the NVIDIA source code leak from 28 February 2022 in the file dev\gpu_drv\stage_rel\drivers\stereo_vision\Apps\Win8StereoSamples\testSwapChain1\testSwapChain1.cpp.

New flat folder icons and previews have been introduced.

Disk Cleanup[edit | edit source]

This build introduces a redesigned version of Disk Cleanup (diskclean.exe), being hidden by default.

Storage Spaces[edit | edit source]

This build introduces the spaceport.sys driver, which would end up being used for the Storage Spaces feature. However, as there is no UI of any sorts, it's not possible to use this feature by default.

UASP drivers are now included.

The Start screen in this build has a button to bring up an early search pane.

Metro Horizon[edit | edit source]

The Metro Horizon has been introduced. By default, it displays as a bar on the bottom of the screen, but can be customised by creating several values within the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Horizon key:

Fit	1 - Condenses the Metro Horizon to a small square on the corner of the screen. 0 - Extends the Metro Horizon (default behaviour).
ItemHeight	4 to 30 (decimal) - Controls the size of the Metro Horizon if `Orientation` is set to 0.
ItemWidth	4 to 30 (decimal) - Controls the size of the Metro Horizon if `Orientation` is set to 1.
Orientation	1 - Places the Metro Horizon on the right of the screen. 0 - Places the Metro Horizon on the bottom of the screen (default behaviour).
ShowInApp	1 - Shows the Metro Horizon on WinRT apps. This wouldn't have any noticeable effect as there aren't any WinRT apps in this build. 0 - Doesn't show the Metro Horizon on WinRT apps.
ShowInDownspace	1 - Shows the Metro Horizon on the Metro downspace. 0 - Doesn't show the Metro Horizon on the Metro downspace (default behaviour).
ShowInMogo	1 - Shows the Metro Horizon on the Start Screen (default behaviour). 0 - Doesn't show the Metro Horizon on the Start Screen.

Modern Windows Task Manager[edit | edit source]

A preliminary version of the Modern Task Manager is included as well. It is accessible by running C:\Windows\System32\TaskUI.exe.

Installation[edit | edit source]

The background seen in the Windows Preinstallation Environment is absent in this build.

DWM and Aero[edit | edit source]

The Windows Basic and the High Contrast themes do not properly render due to the enforcement of the DWM Aero theme.
Only the top portion of the window frame is blurred when using the Windows Aero theme, leaving the side borders transparent.

Themes[edit | edit source]

The regional theme is displayed in the installed themes section, and not in the Aero themes section.

Start screen[edit | edit source]

The search button can disappear in some cases.

File permissions[edit | edit source]

The Select Users or Groups dialog when editing permissions for a file/folder might fail to recognize the users' username until the user completely reopen the security properties and attempt the operation again.
