Disk Cleanup is a system utility that is included in Microsoft Windows since Windows 98. It allows the user to free up disk space on the hard drive by deleting or compressing certain files and folders that are no longer needed or have not been used by the user in a while.
It was planned to be replaced by a new disk cleanup tool in Windows 8, but it was dropped before the Windows Developer Preview. Instead, some of its functionality made it into the Settings app of Windows 10.
