New features and changes[edit | edit source]
Professional SKU[edit | edit source]
This build marks the return of the Professional SKU, which was absent since Windows Vista build 5270. The image index description, however, has not been updated yet to refer to the new name and continues to use Business instead.
Other[edit | edit source]
Many applications and design elements have been updated to resemble their RTM counterparts, such as Windows Setup, Sticky Notes, the Superbar, the driver installation prompt or the window caption buttons.
The Windows 7 logo banner first seen in build 6519 has been slightly modified to shrink the Windows flag and to align the wordmark to the center.
The power and lock buttons in the Start menu have been replaced with a single power button. Compared to the earlier one, which only allowed either the shut down or the hibernate button to appear, the new button can be customized to show up a selected power action.
- Send Feedback has now returned to window title bars.
- Aero Peek has been updated.
- A new Magnifier application, similar in appearance to its RTM counterpart, has been added.
- Windows Media Center includes a new setup experience.
- Paint and WordPad received design refreshes, along with new Ribbon options.
- The title font for Purble Place has been updated from Comic Sans to Arial.
- The left pane graphic has been removed from Windows Easy Transfer.
- Math Input Panel received its final icon.
- The UAC shield icon has been updated, which makes it no longer using the colors of the windows logo, instead with two altering blue and yellow fields taking place.
- This build marks the comeback of a feature which allowed to place a link in window title bars next to their window controls to redirect users to a feedback application. A similar implementation was last seen in Windows XP build 2475 and Windows Server 2003 build 3621.
- DirectX has been updated to version 11.
Windows Explorer[edit | edit source]
- Sort headers will now show in Details view only.
- The downloads library has been removed.
- Minor visual updates have been made to the command bar.
Control Panel[edit | edit source]
- "Windows Solution Center" has been renamed to "Action Center".
- Devices, Printers and Troubleshooting, and Recovery received new icons.
- The navigation pane section has been added to Folder Options.
- Credential Manager and Troubleshooting received minor UI adjustments.
