Sticky Notes is a notes application by Microsoft, first introduced in Windows XP Tablet PC Edition. The first version of this app worked with pen input and had support for microphone recording.
Windows Longhorn build 4042 (Lab06_n) also has these hidden in \Windows\WinSxS
. Unlike the former, they work by dragging an empty text file onto the icon. Windows Vista wouldn't have any changes made to Sticky Notes, except a new app icon. Windows 7, however overhauled Sticky Notes with the removal of pen input support and a new user interface.
Windows 10 Anniversary Update overhauls Sticky Notes as a UWP app, introduces Cortana integration and uses a new note filetype rather than the old .snt filetype.
