Windows Me build 2419 is the official Beta 2 release of Windows Me. This build includes new Control Panel applets and MSN Messenger 1.0. Outlook Express has been updated from version 5.01 to 5.5 to match Internet Explorer 5.5. Screenshots of the German localization for this build were shown by operating-system.org,[1] though it remains to be found. A Czech version of this build was shown in an old magazine and was published to BetaArchive on 21 March 2013, though it also remains to be found.[2][3] Images of the Korean version were posted by Callisto on 29 July 2022. A Brazilian Portuguese version is referenced in the Brazilian Portuguese Windows Me Step by Step Interactive (SBSI) Tour. A low-quality screenshot of the Simplified Chinese version exists on a demo video from a piece of video player software called "豪杰超级解霸2000" (roughly translated as Hero Super Jieba 2000), but the build itself remains unleaked.[4]

New features[edit | edit source]

Compressed folders[edit | edit source]

Windows Explorer can now open and create compressed folders (ZIP archives), a feature that was previously only available as part of Microsoft Plus! 98. However, it's not installed by default and has to be manually selected on the component list during setup or later in the Add/Remove Programs control panel applet.

Windows Media Pad[edit | edit source]

Like build 2416, this build also contains a pre-release build of Windows Movie Maker called Windows Media Pad, but it isn't installed by default. The installation procedure is identical to the previous build.

MSN Messenger[edit | edit source]

This is the first build of Windows since Windows 98 SE build 2106 to include MSN Messenger, also known as MSN Messaging Service, this time the final build of version 1.0. MSN Messenger later became part of the Internet Explorer 5.5 suite.

Other changes[edit | edit source]

Bugs[edit | edit source]

S3 drivers[edit | edit source]

When using S3 video adapters, Windows will complain that its own drivers will not work properly, thus the display will be stuck at 640×480 resolution and 16 colors mode. This error will also appear upon every boot and other drivers cannot be installed correctly, meaning that S3 video adapters are not recommended for this build. S3 ViRGE and later Trio graphics adapters are not affected from this bug.

Neptune reference[edit | edit source]

Two files named gemstar.sys and wstdecod.dll, with the version number 5.50.5099.1 were found in this Millennium build, but it is unknown whether this Neptune build was ever compiled.

Some speculate this could be a late Milestone 1 or an early Milestone 2 build. Judging by the file dates, it would have been compiled before 17 November 1999.
