Windows 7 build 6941 is a pre-beta build of Windows 7, which was uploaded to BetaArchive by grabberslasher on 31 January 2020. Prior to it being shared, the build was initially reviewed by Paul Thurrott, who provided screenshots of it;[1] the images were lost during the transition to ITPro Today. Thomas Hounsell also uploaded screenshots of the build to OSBetaArchive,[2] all of which have been preserved below.

Changes[edit | edit source]

This build introduces a new boot screen found in the RTM build, which depicts several colored orbs coming together to form the Windows logo. Similarly, the third stage of setup has also been updated to feature its RTM design, which shows a continuous orb in place of a placeholder progress bar. The Superbar is now enabled by default and has recieved minor design updates.[Change note 1] In addition, various applications such as Windows Media Center have recieved minor design updates. The Windows 7 logo has also been sightly modified into its final RTM form. The text font is much more bolder and the color level of the Windows Flag has been slightly modified to look a little bit more darker.

A selection of regional wallpapers/themes were also introduced. The United Kingdom and the United States themes consist of wallpapers representing shots of various regions in the two countries, while the Australia, Canada, and South Africa themes consist of six unrelated placeholder wallpapers, one of which is a duplicate. These themes can be enabled by setting the current location to any of these countries in the Region and Language Control Panel.

Additionally, the copyright date of winver.exe has been updated from 2007 to 2008.

Notes[edit | edit source]

  1. These updates mainly consist of outline work around the superbar orb.

Bugs[edit | edit source]

  • This is the first build in which an additional Windows Media Player icon is placed in the superbar when upgrading from an earlier build.
