Windows 11 build 26212 is a build of Germanium, the 24H2 development semester of Windows as a service. It was released to the Windows Insiders in the Canary Channel on 8 May 2024, along with its server counterpart.

New features and changes[edit | edit source]

File Explorer[edit | edit source]

  • The drag-and-drop functionality between breadcrumbs in the address bar, initially implemented in build 22635.3420, has been ported to this build. This feature is disabled by default, but can be activated manually by enabling the 47664723 and 48433719 velocity staging keys.
  • The "Duplicate Tab" option in the tabs context menu for duplicating the selected tab, initially implemented in build 22635.3566, has been ported to this build. This feature is disabled by default, but can be activated manually by enabling the 45262221 and 48433719 velocity staging keys.

Shell[edit | edit source]

  • The following features and changes to the Windows Share flyout have been ported to this build:
    • The new button to generate QR codes for URLs and cloud file links (initially implemented in build 22635.3420).
    • Removal of the functionality to dismiss the flyout after clicking outside of it (initially implemented in build 22635.3420).
    • The ability to send email to user's own Gmail account directly from the flyout (initially implemented in build 22635.3500).
  • A new "Welcome back!" text has been added to the login screen. This feature is only available when signing in with a Microsoft account and is disabled by default, but can be activated manually by enabling the 42941381 velocity staging key.

Settings[edit | edit source]

A new "Ask Copilot in Windows" option has been added to the search dropdown menu to invoke Copilot for support. This feature is disabled by default, but can be activated manually by enabling the 49445394 velocity staging key.

Bugfixes[edit | edit source]

General[edit | edit source]

  • Fixed the issue that was causing the Advanced Boot Options screen in bootmgr to not work in build 26200.
  • Fixed the issue that was causing Features on Demand to not install.
  • Fixed an underlying issue that was causing Visual Studio to fail to debug x64 .NET framework console applications (the app would crash in ntdll.dll upon load).

File Explorer[edit | edit source]

  • Fixed an issue that was causing File Explorer to sporadically crash when using path suggestions in the address bar.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing File Explorer to crash sometimes when going from the search box to the body of File Explorer.

Shell[edit | edit source]

  • Fixed the issue that was causing the spinner animation in boot screen to disappear in build 26200.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing the taskbar to be partially off the screen on secondary monitors.
  • Fixed a couple DWM crashes that was causing the screen to appear to flash.

Accessibility[edit | edit source]

  • Fixed an issue that was causing a message saying live captions were being missed to appear repeatedly.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing Narrator to be silent while rearranging apps on the taskbar.

Copilot[edit | edit source]

Fixed the issue that was causing Copilot to run automatically at startup unexpectedly after restarting Windows.

Bugs and quirks[edit | edit source]

  • Users may be unable to perform an in-place upgrade to this build via Windows Update in builds 26040, 23620 and earlier due to a deadlock that occurs during the initial preparation process.
  • Text on highlighted items in Microsoft Management Console and some of its snap-ins may have a yellow color.
  • The ⊞ Win+W keyboard shortcut may not work correctly and open the Widgets board.
