Windows Server build 26212 is an Insider Preview build of Windows Server based on the Germanium codebase. It was released to Windows Insiders on 8 May 2024, along with its client counterpart.

New features and changes[edit | edit source]

  • A new account type named delegated Managed Service Account (dMSA) has been introduced to allow migration from a traditional service account to a machine account with managed and fully randomized keys, while disabling original service account passwords.
  • The following SMB protocol features and changes, initially implemented in client build 26085, have been applied to Windows Server:
    • The ability to disable the SMB over QUIC client with Group Policy and PowerShell.
    • The SMB over QUIC client connection auditing feature.
    • The SMB signing and encryption auditing feature.

Bugs and quirks[edit | edit source]

  • When upgrading to this build via Windows Update, the download process may remain stuck at 0%.
  • This build is incorrectly labeled as "Windows 11" in Windows Update.
  • Archiving eventlogs with wevtutil al command may cause the Windows Event Log service to crash, and the archive operation to fail.
  • Upgrading to this build from Windows Server 2019 or Windows Server 2022 may fail with several intermittent upgrade failures.
  • Upgrading to this build on devices with System Guard Secure Launch/DRTM code path enabled may fail due to unknown reasons.
