Windows 11 build 25193 is the twenty-second Insider Preview and the sixteenth available client build of Copper, the 23H1 development semester of Windows as a service. It was released to Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel on 1 September 2022.

New features and changes[edit | edit source]

Settings[edit | edit source]

The ability to view details about Xbox subscriptions under the Accounts page has been added.
- This feature is only available to a subset of users.
The support for new Braille displays and input/output languages in Narrator have been added under Accessibility > Narrator > Braille.

Shell[edit | edit source]

The ability to choose OneDrive as a target to directly upload the file to OneDrive via the built-in Windows share window, initially introduced in build 25163, has been disabled for maintenance.
The tablet-optimized taskbar feature, initially introduced in builds 22563 and 25066, but removed in builds 22610 and 25110, has been re-introduced.
- This feature is disabled by default. To enable it, run ViVeTool from an elevated Command Prompt window to enable the 26008830 velocity ID.
  - To enable this feature on all devices (including non-touchscreen devices), enable the velocity ID and merge this registry key:

The unified hitboxes for Win32 system tray icons and the "show hidden icons" flyout, initially introduced in builds 22563 and 25066, but removed in builds 22616 and 25115, has been re-introduced.
- This change will be applied only if the tablet-optimized taskbar is enabled on the device.
- As a result of this change, the drag-and-drop feature for reorganizing tray icons has been disabled.
New animation for system tray icons has been added.
- This change will be applied only if the tablet-optimized taskbar is enabled on the device.
A new variant of redesigned Search entry point on the taskbar has been added.
- This feature is disabled by default, but can be enabled by running ViVeTool from an elevated Command Prompt window to enable the 39072097 velocity ID with variant parameter 6.
The network flyout on the lock screen has been redesigned in order to align with the design aesthetics of Windows 11.

Miscellaneous[edit | edit source]

The performance of loading Home when using a cloud storage provider (i.e. OneDrive) to back up the files in File Explorer has been improved.
A warning has been added to the findstr command when Unicode input is detected.

Bugfixes[edit | edit source]

General[edit | edit source]

Fixed an issue that was causing the .NET Framework 3.5 feature to fail to enable with the 0x800f080c error, or to be disabled automatically when upgrading to build 25188.
Fixed an issue which could sometimes cause a ShellExperienceHost.exe crash when users stopped casting to another display or switched to duplicate the display.
Fixed an issue causing lines to not be included when printing tables from certain apps.
Fixed an issue which could lead to hangs in certain apps.

File Explorer[edit | edit source]

Fixed an issue where hovering the mouse on the bottom of the screen to invoke the taskbar won't work if the taskbar is set to auto-hide and File Explorer is maximized.
Fixed an issue when dragging and dropping a folder to pin it to the navigation pane, that the line indicating where it would be inserted didn't have enough contrast in dark mode.
Fixed an issue where the search box background in File Explorer might be the opposite color of the current mode.
Fixed an issue where File Explorer would appear to open, close, and re-open before it finished drawing after being launched from certain places.
Fixed an issue where certain files couldn't be unpinned from the Favorites section of Home after users had pinned them.
Fixed UI issues when switching between dark and light mode if the File Explorer window was open when switching.
Fixed a GDI objects leak when resizing the navigation pane in File Explorer, which could potentially lead to content in File Explorer not rendering correctly over time when resizing the navigation pane frequently.

Fixed an issue causing the taskbar overflow to not use the same accent color as the taskbar.
Fixed a couple of issues which were leading to sporadic explorer.exe crashes related to the taskbar overflow.
Fixed an issue related to the widgets entry in the taskbar which was causing the taskbar icons to appear to drift around sometimes in build 25188.
Fixed an issue for devices with at least two monitors, where if the monitors had different DPI, the taskbar overflow could appear before it was needed or end up overlapped with the date and time on the secondary monitor.
Fixed an issue where the taskbar overflow flyout might appear floating away from the taskbar if users opened it after a display scaling change.
Fixed an issue that was causing unexpected characters to show instead of an apostrophe in the tooltip for the Sleep option in the Start menu's Power menu.
Fixed an issue which could lead to Start menu crashing on launch when Search highlights was enabled.

Fixed an issue causing the Storage page in Settings as well as Disk Cleanup to crash in the scan phase.
Fixed an issue where URIs to open pages under the Accounts section would navigate to the wrong page.
- This issue impacted the link to open Sign-in Options in the Start menu.
Fixed an issue leading to app icons not displaying correctly under Privacy & Security > Voice activation.
Fixed a Settings crash when uninstalling apps using Apps > Installed apps.

Bugs and quirks[edit | edit source]

General[edit | edit source]

Some games that use Easy Anti-Cheat may crash or cause the device to bugcheck.
The audio may stop working in certain cases.
Several apps may crash on launch in certain cases.
Users may experience bugchecks when moving the mouse in certain games.
The OneDrive setup may appear to ask for permission to set up every time Windows reboots.
- Disabling OneDriveSetup.exe from opening at startup may resolve this issue.

File Explorer[edit | edit source]

File Explorer may fail to open if the "Launch folder windows in a separate process" option in Folder Options is enabled.
The command bar items, such as copy, paste, and empty recycle bin, may unexpectedly not be enabled.

Virtualization[edit | edit source]

Users may experience a UNSUPPORTED_PROCESSOR bugcheck when booting Windows in VMware on a Hyper-V enabled host with 2 or more cores allocated.
The system may fail to boot in VMware with attached network adapters.

Shell[edit | edit source]

On some locales, the default font used in several UI elements (such as the date and time on the taskbar) may change to regular Segoe UI instead of Segoe UI Variable.

Widgets[edit | edit source]

The Notification badge number may appear misaligned on the taskbar.
The Notification banner for some badging may not appear in the Widgets board in some cases.
The weather may display incorrectly in the taskbar with missing text, and the weather icon may raise too high.

Safe mode[edit | edit source]

Quick Settings and date/time clock on the taskbar may be missing due to the Capability Access Manager Service service not running.
Clicking Bluetooth & devices and Personalization pages may crash the Settings app due to an overrun of a stack-based buffer 0xc0000409.
