Windows 11 build 25115 is the seventh Insider Preview and the first available client build of Copper, the 23H1 development semester of Windows as a service. It was released to Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel on 11 May 2022, along with Nickel build 22621.

New features and changes[edit | edit source]

Suggested actions[edit | edit source]

Suggested actions UI

A new feature called Suggested actions has been introduced, which shows relevant actions when certain kinds of content is selected. When a phone number is selected, a popup offering to call the phone number using Teams or calling apps shows up. Similarly, when a date and/or time is selected, a popup offering to add the date to a supported calendar app will appear. The feature can be toggled by the "Suggested actions" option in Settings under System → Clipboard.

Recovery Environment[edit | edit source]

The icons shown in the Windows Recovery Environment and the graphical boot menu have been updated to match the Windows 11 design. As a part of this change, the new Windows logo is now properly used for Windows 11 installations while the new icons for Windows 8 and Windows 10 now feature the respective version number inside a window, similarly to the design already used for Windows 7.

Miscellaneous[edit | edit source]

  • The performance of loading Home page in File Explorer has been improved.
  • The underlying speech platform has been updated to improve voice activity detection for voice access, live captions, and voice typing, as well as address some issues with how punctuation is recognized.
  • This is the first available client build to include the Windows logo banner removal first spotted in Windows Server build 25075. This affects the legacy shutdown dialog shown when pressing Alt+F4 on the desktop, the about dialogs of many built-in apps and the hidden System page in the Control Panel. Interestingly, the Windows logo banner in the hidden System page in the Control Panel was Windows 10 instead of Windows 11.

Bugfixes[edit | edit source]

General[edit | edit source]

  • Addressed an issue which was leading to Memory Integrity unexpectedly getting turned off in some cases after rebooting.
  • Fixed an issue causing the Update Stack Package to show install error 0xc4800010.
  • Fixed an issue which could result in Smart App Control unexpectedly blocking correctly signed applications.

Shell[edit | edit source]

  • Fixed a sporadic explorer.exe crash when closing File Explorer windows.
  • Fixed an issue leading to users encountering the 0x800703e6 error when copying files from Google Drive.
  • Fixed an issue where if users had ever opened the context menu, doing Ctrl+Alt+Del and cancelling would lead to explorer.exe crashing.
  • Fixed an issue related to loading the system tray icons under the Taskbar page in the Settings app which could cause it to crash when opening that page recently.

Settings[edit | edit source]

  • Fixed an issue where if the Settings app suspended, it could lock up explorer.exe in certain cases.
  • Improved how Narrator reads out remaining space available in the Storage page.

Task Manager[edit | edit source]

  • Fixed some issues related to access key use in Task Manager, including that users weren't able to directly press Alt++ without first releasing the Alt key, and that displaying the access keys wouldn't work after having used and dismissed them.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing the CPU column header to unexpectedly become unreadable in dark mode if the CPU reaches 100%.

Bugs and quirks[edit | edit source]

General[edit | edit source]

  • This build is not publicly available to devices in the ARM64 architecture; however, it can still be obtained by utilizing UUP files of this build, which are uploaded to Windows Update server.
  • Some games that use Easy Anti-Cheat may crash or cause the device to bugcheck.
  • Devices with multiple physical processors may encounter a MEMORY_MANAGEMENT bugcheck when booting into Windows or the installation media of this build.

Live captions[edit | edit source]

  • Certain apps in full screen (e.g., video players) may prevent live captions from being visible.
  • Certain apps positioned near the top of the screen and closed before live captions is run may re-launch behind the live captions window positioned at top.

Safe mode[edit | edit source]

  • Quick Settings and date/time clock on the taskbar may be missing due to the Capability Access Manager Service service not running.
  • Clicking Bluetooth & devices and Personalization pages may crash the Settings app due to an overrun of a stack-based buffer 0xc0000409.
