Windows 11 build 22567.1 is the twenty-second Insider Preview build of Windows 11 2022 Update. It was released to Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel on 2 March 2022, along with Copper build 25066.

New features and changes[edit | edit source]

Settings[edit | edit source]

  • Starting with this build, Windows Update will automatically prioritize installing updates in the background when more renewable energy sources are available based on the regional carbon intensity data from electricityMap or WattTime.
    • This feature is only available to a subset of users in selected countries and regions, and will only be enabled when the device is plugged in.
    • When enabled, the message "Windows Update is committed to helping reduce carbon emissions" will be shown on the main Windows Update page.
  • The Microsoft 365 subscription management section, previously on the Your Microsoft Account subpage, has been moved to the main Accounts page.
    • This change is only available to a subset of users.
  • A banner has been add to the main Accounts page to show users' payment details within the subscription card.
    • This change is only available to a subset of users.
  • Several pages across the app have been updated to adopt WinUI controls.
  • The search experience has been improved to provide a more accurate set of search results as well as bring more relevant search results up to the top of the list.
  • The tablet-optimized taskbar option on the Taskbar subpage under the Personalization page has been changed to "Optimize taskbar for touch interactions when this device is used as a tablet".
  • The ability to search for pages related to the live captions settings has been added.
  • The Braille display input and output table type dropdowns has been updated to have a default value.
  • The "live captions" option has been added to the main Accessibility page (listed under Captions section).
    • This change is only available to a subset of users.

Windows Security[edit | edit source]

A new security feature named Smart App Control (SAC) has been added for blocking untrusted or potentially dangerous applications.

  • SAC is only available when performing a clean installation of this build and will be first configured in evaluation mode.
  • Users can permanently turn SAC on under the App & Browser Control page in the Windows Security app, but once it's been turned off, users will not be allowed to turn it on again without reinstalling Windows.

Shell[edit | edit source]

  • The updated Open With dialog box, initially introduced in build 22563, has been rolled out to a subset of users.
  • A small animation has been added to hint the creation of a new folder when hovering one pinned app icon over another in the Start menu.
  • The ability to mute and unmute the audio by clicking the volume icon in the hardware indicator for volume has been added.
  • The icon used for hiding key press visuals in the touch keyboard when focus is set to a password field has been updated.
  • The accessibility flyout on the Lock screen's location and spacing will be centered and consistent with the design of other options.
  • The reliability for using the taskbar to bring an already running app to the foreground has been improved.
  • The reliability of invoking snap layouts at the top of the screen has been improved.
  • The performance of displaying the content in the Recycle Bin has been improved, in cases where there were many files.

Narrator[edit | edit source]

  • Narrator will consistently announce that it's reading from a pop-up dialog when reading its message.
  • Narrator will announce the name of the page and the focused element correctly when using Microsoft Edge's History page.
  • Narrator will read the errors, warnings, tips & intelligent services section correctly when clicking Review > Check Accessibility entry in Microsoft Excel.

Miscellaneous[edit | edit source]

  • The redesigned Task Manager, initially introduced in build 22538 and available to a subset of users in build 22557, has been rolled out to all users.
  • A new page has been added to the OOBE for linking Android phones to the device.
  • New touch gestures have been added for swiping up or down with three fingers to minimize or restore all open windows.
  • Several previously available features related to the voice typing have been rolled out to all users:
    • The ability to download Speech Packs from the Microsoft Store (initially introduced in build 22538).
    • The ability to choose which microphone to use in voice typing when multiple microphones are connected to the device (initially introduced in build 22557).
    • Four new commands for typing ↵ Enter, ← Backspace, Spacebar, and Tab ↹ (initially introduced in build 22557).
  • The support of relative paths for Windows Sandbox mapped folders has been added.
  • The mouse click reliability of system tray icons has been improved when the tablet-optimized taskbar is enabled on the device.
  • The input switching responsiveness when using ⊞ Win+Spacebar has been improved.
  • The reported version string has been changed from "Dev" to "22H2".

Bugfixes[edit | edit source]

General[edit | edit source]

  • Fixed an issue where the startup sound wouldn't play when starting Windows.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause explorer.exe to crash when opening the context menu sometimes.
  • Fixed an issue where the Notification Center wouldn't close and have to manually dismiss it when a focus session is started, and the focus timer is opened.
  • Fixed an issue which was impacting the ability of opening Quick Settings and Notification Center when animations were disabled.
  • Quick Settings and Notification Center should dismiss more reliably now if users had used a gesture to invoke them before trying to dismiss them.
  • Fixed an issue relating to the UiaDisconnectProvider API which was causing certain apps to crash.
  • Mitigated a bugcheck which was happening in the last few builds for users with more than 8 monitors connected.
  • Fixed an issue where clicking pinned an app on the taskbar within Windows Sandbox wasn't working.

  • Fixed an issue where the calendar flyout wouldn't update to reflect a date change when the timezone is changed.
  • Fixed an issue where using Narrator key+↵ Enter or Narrator touch gestures wouldn't activate items in the taskbar.
  • Mitigated an issue that was causing windows to be able to draw on top of the taskbar after dismissing one of the taskbar flyouts.
  • Fixed an issue affecting the reliability of the Start menu opening.
  • Fixed an issue where dragging a pinned app icon between pages of pinned apps in the Start menu wasn't working.
  • Addressed an alignment issue with the More button in the Start menu.
  • Fixed an issue where clicking the buttons in the new OneDrive flyout wouldn't bring those objects into foreground focus.
  • Fixed an issue where star rating supported files wasn't working.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause explorer.exe to crash when opening the context menu sometimes.
  • Addressed an underlying crash that was happening when trying to start a search from File Explorer, impacting the ability to search.
  • Fixed an issue for users with small screens where the context menu in File Explorer would animate in downwards, disappear, then immediately reappear animating upwards.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing explorer.exe to crash when dragging a window between monitors.
  • Fixed an issue whe the tooltip wouldn't actually match the right one when hovering over a Desktop thumbnail in Task view.
  • Fixed an issue where the Snap assist might unexpectedly trigger when a window snapped in that area is available.
  • Fixed an issue where Task view would fail to launch and immediately dismiss when invoking it while the search flyout from the taskbar is open.

Input[edit | edit source]

  • Fixed an issue which was leading to some users seeing black text on a dark background in the input switcher.
  • Addressed an issue where the Japanese IME toolbar could become transparent, and the IME candidate window clipped or not displayed at all.
  • Fixed an issue where the text would appear written in the correct direction when using the Japanese IME with a vertical candidate list.
  • Fixed an issue where the new "Press Backspace" command when voice typing wasn't working in Japanese.
  • Mitigated an issue that was causing Narrator focus to get stuck in the wrong place after inserting an emoji and dismissing the emoji panel.

Settings[edit | edit source]

  • Fixed an issue where items in the app list under Installed apps page would overlap each other.
  • Fixed an issue where it wasn't possible to select the restart now button on the Windows Update page using touch.

Voice access[edit | edit source]

  • Fixed an issue that was causing Outlook to scroll to the beginning of emails when the voice access is enabled and users start talking.
  • Fixed an issue where the button text in voice access would cut off when changing the text size.
  • Fixed an issue that was preventing voice access from launching on any ARM64 devices.
  • Voice access will no longer turn on after logging in unless the voice access setting is also turned on.

Live captions[edit | edit source]

  • Live captions will now handle the switching audio devices more smoothly.
  • Fixed an issue where white flashes would appear when changing the size of live captions in dark mode.
  • Fixed an issue where the settings flyout wouldn't be light-dismissed in the live captions window.

Narrator[edit | edit source]

  • Fixed an issue causing high CPU usage while using Narrator.
  • Fixed an issue where Narrator wouldn't read out the theme as well as the selection state on the Personalization > Text input > Theme page in the Settings app.
  • Fixed an underlying issue which was impacting Narrator keyboard navigation in webview2 in certain apps.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing Narrator to hang when using Norton Power Eraser.

Task Manager[edit | edit source]

  • Fixed an issue where column preferences weren't being preserved.
  • Fixed an issue where the default start page and always on top settings wouldn't work correctly.
  • Fixed an issue where the ellipsis menu would appear when there's nothing to show.
  • Mitigated a crash that was happening sometimes when trying to launch Task Manager.
  • Fixed an issue where Efficiency mode icons were missing on some child processes.
  • Fixed an issue where some settings options were not preserved.
  • Fixed an issue where Suspended and Efficiency mode icons were clipped when displayed on monitors with high DPI settings.

Lock and login screens[edit | edit source]

  • Fixed an issue causing the accessibility flyout on the Lock screen to flicker.
  • Fixed the border of the accessibility flyout on the Lock screen to show correctly in high contrast mode.
  • Addressed an encoding issue in the message text when using a security key to login.
  • Mitigated an explorer.exe crash some users were seeing when logging into the device.

Bugs and quirks[edit | edit source]

General[edit | edit source]

  • When going through the OOBE on the Enterprise SKU, the network add screen may be skipped on the first attempt.
  • Users may encounter a 0x8007007f bugcheck when trying to upgrade directly from Windows 10 to build 22563 and this build.
    • To bypass this issue, join the Beta Channel to install the offered Windows 11 build, and then switch to the Dev Channel to receive the aforementioned builds.
  • Windows Mixed Reality may not work due to repeated explorer.exe crashes.
  • Some Hyper-V virtual machines may fail to power on with the error "The parameter is incorrect" when the TPM feature is enabled on these machines.
  • The "Print Queue Action Center" app (located in %SystemRoot%\SystemApps\Microsoft.Windows.PrintQueueActionCenter_cw5n1h2txyewy) may appear in the Start menu and is not functional.
    • It may be served as a replacement for the legacy print queue dialog.

Shell[edit | edit source]

  • Right-clicking on the Start icon or pressing ⊞ Win+X may cause explorer.exe to crash due to an access violation 0xc0000005 in Taskbar.View.dll.
    • Devices with the tablet-optimized taskbar enabled would not be affected by this issue.
  • Scroll bars may not render appropriately on some Win32 applications.
    • This bug is visual only as users are still able to click/drag the scroll bar as expected.
  • The taskbar icon and tooltip may not match the focus state.
  • The Clock app may not update Windows Focus state when configuring focus sessions within the app.
  • Opening suggested results shown while entering search terms in File Explorer's search box may not work.
  • Users may encounter issues regarding icon sizing, visual bugs, and text clipping in the flyout showing OneDrive storage.

Tablet-optimized taskbar[edit | edit source]

The following issues will only be encountered if the tablet-optimized taskbar is enabled on the device.

  • The taskbar may not always automatically collapse after launching an app or tapping outside of the expanded taskbar on 2-in-1 devices.
  • Users may see overlapping components, such as Widgets overlapping with the taskbar as some areas of the OS are not yet tracking the height of the expanded taskbar on 2-in-1 devices.

Widgets[edit | edit source]

  • When pinning from the Feed, the pinned widget may be placed at the top instead of below other pinned widgets.
    • This issue will be auto-corrected within 30 minutes.
    • Alternatively, signing out of Widgets board and immediately signing back in may solve this issue.
  • After rearranging widgets in the Widgets board, some users may experience problems with widgets in the pinned section rendering incorrectly.
    • Signing out of Widgets board and immediately signing back in may solve this issue.

Live captions[edit | edit source]

  • Certain apps in full screen (e.g., video players) may prevent live captions from being visible.
    • Using the system menu Alt+Spacebar while the app has focus to move the app's window further down may solve this issue.
  • The very top of maximized apps (e.g., title bar window management buttons) may not be reached with touch while live captions is positioned at the top.

Task Manager[edit | edit source]

Some tooltips may not accurately display the preferred visual setting when Task Manager is configured for dark mode.

Safe mode[edit | edit source]

  • Quick Settings and date/time clock on the taskbar may be missing due to the Capability Access Manager Service service not running.
  • Opening File Explorer may lead explorer.exe to crash due to an unhandled exception 0xc000027b.
  • Clicking Bluetooth & devices and Personalization pages may crash the Settings app due to an overrun of a stack-based buffer 0xc0000409.
