Cinnamon is a desktop environment created by the Linux Mint team for Linux and UNIX-based operating systems. It was released into the Linux Mint repositories in May 2011, and officially made the default desktop environment for Linux Mint in May 2012. It originated as a fork of the GNOME Shell, with the Linux Mint team aiming to provide a more familiar and user-friendly desktop experience.
