Android 16 (codenamed Baklava) is an upcoming version of the Android mobile operating system. It is currently shipping experimental releases intended for developers and early adopters and is expected to have an initial stable release sometime during Q2 2025.
Android 16 completes the transition of Android's release cycle to trunk-based, feature rich quarterly releases. With an unnamed minor release of Android 16 shipping during Q4 2025, adding a bunch of new minor APIs and features, without affecting app compatibility. These changes to the release cycle are part of an initiative to bring more features and APIs to developers sooner, and drive faster innovation in apps and devices.
Like all recent SDK releases of the Android Open Source Project. Security backports designed for the 25Q2 release of Android 16 will be provided for the next few years.
