Android 12L (released as Android 12.1 for Pixel devices) is a variant of Android 12 containing optimizations and new APIs targeting tablets and devices with large screens. Android 12L is also the 2nd quarterly platform release (QPR) for Android 12. But unlike a typical QPR, it contains more major changes resulting in a new API level being declared, which is rare for an interim/quarterly Android release.
Android 12L is still receiving security bulletin backport coverage and will so for the incoming months, despite not having any more active development work and new monthly releases being shipped.
