Windows Vista build 5487 is a pre-RC1 build of Windows Vista, which was uploaded to BetaArchive by Grabberslasher on 29 January 2020 alongside Windows Longhorn build 4033 (idx01).[1]

History[edit | edit source]

Initially, German technology news website WinFuture.de released 57 screenshots of it on 2 August 2006,[2] then the build itself was shared online in China five days later on 7 August, but it became lost shortly after.[3]

Changes[edit | edit source]

  • The watermark now states RC 1 instead of Beta 2.
  • The Windows Orb seen while logging in has decreased in size and resembles that of the RTM.
  • Slightly changed the appearance of the login screen to resemble the final version.
  • Changed many parts of the OOBE.
  • The setup and login screen now use the backgrounds seen in the RTM.
  • "Folder Options", "Fonts", "Mouse", "Sound", "Sync Center", "System" and "Welcome Center" applets received new icons in Control Panel.

Bugs[edit | edit source]

Graphics driver[edit | edit source]

The default VGA graphics adapter is very buggy, often having the screen flicker through resolutions and cannot have resolutions higher than 800x600 pixels. However, if you upgrade from a previous build, you can have 1024x768 and higher.
