Windows Vista build 5221 (vbl_ux_dev_checkin_gamesux) is a pre-Beta 2 build of Windows Vista. This build was used as concept art in one of Microsoft's presentations, and was also shown off in several Parental Controls demonstrations at PDC 2005.[1] A screenshot of this build was accidentally posted to Microsoft's website, and was subsequently archived by Polish website WinBeta.pl before it was taken down.[2]
This is the earliest known build to include the start menu used in build 5252 onwards, alongside with the start orb and darker taskbar seen in other vbl_ux_dev_checkin
builds.
New features & changes[edit | edit source]
Control Panel[edit | edit source]
- The gradient on the left sidebar has been changed to dark green to light green with the addition of the Windows logo as well.
Applications[edit | edit source]
Windows included games[edit | edit source]
- Chess now uses the "Chess Titans" branding in more places and the icon has been updated to have a black knight and a black pawn, next to the original icon. The new icon can be seen briefly when Games Explorer folder loads.
Quirks[edit | edit source]
Unlike build 5219, the logon screensaver still uses Longhorn branding. This is likely due to this branch not being fully synced with winmain
branch.
