Changes[edit | edit source]
- The Windows XP-style Start menu is now used by default.
- Changed the login background's color from blue to gray.
- The Windows Product Activation grace period has been reduced to 14 days.
- New bugcheck codes have been added:[2]
BUGCODE_NDIS_DRIVER
(0x7C
, replacesBUGCODE_PSS_MESSAGE
from Windows NT 3.1 to Windows 2000)A driver has overrun a stack-based buffer. This overrun could potentially allow a malicious user to gain control of this machine.
(0xF7
, later renamedDRIVER_OVERRAN_STACK_BUFFER
)An initialization failure occurred while attempting to boot from the RAM disk.
(0xF8
, later renamedRAMDISK_BOOT_INITIALIZATION_FAILED
)
Quirks[edit | edit source]
Just like build 3590, System Properties and winver
oddly identify themselves as having Service Pack 1 installed. This quirk can be fixed by navigating to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlCurrentSet\Control\Windows
and setting the CSDVersion
key to 0 in Registry Editor.
