Windows NT 3.1 build 239 is the December 1991 build of Windows NT 3.1. Like in earlier builds, Sound Blaster configuration is hardcoded for I/O port 0x260 and IRQ 7.
New features and changes[edit | edit source]
The color palette has been changed back to the one used by Windows 3.1 and build 196 as opposed to the older Windows 3.0 palette used by the October build.
The Video 7 VGA driver now also supports 1024×768 at 16 colors as opposed to only 800×600.
Notably, the kernel is now in PE format instead of COFF format.
MIPS compile[edit | edit source]
This is the earliest available build of NT for the MIPS R4000 architecture. Due to its earliness, a custom ARC firmware ROM image must be used, otherwise the installer and boot loader will crash or exit. The build is very unstable in QEMU and will hang during boot. In MAME, it will install properly, but the boot entry is incomplete and needs to be fixed in the ARC firmware setup after installation.

TEXTPERF.XLS in the leaked Windows NT 3.5 build 782 source code shows that as many as 27 candidate builds have been compiled for this release.
