Performance Monitor (formerly known as System Monitor) is a system utility included with Microsoft Windows since Windows NT 3.1. It is used to monitor all of the various activities on the computer such as CPU and memory usage. It is also used to pinpoint performance issues on local and remote computers by measuring the performance of all of the computer's resources.
It started its life as an independent application, before eventually being ported to a Microsoft Management Console applet.
