Changes[edit | edit source]
- Some minor UI changes to certain apps such as Internet Explorer.
- Changed the title bar gradients to resemble the final product.
- This build, like builds 1513 and 1518, oddly reuses the shutdown screen from the Developer Releases.
- The icons in Internet Explorer now have a more three-dimensional look on 256 colors or higher.
- A new experimental entertainment shell is included on the installation disc (
ESHELL.EXE). It was removed in build 1525. - Microsoft NetMeeting was updated to version 2.0.
- The "Scanners and Cameras" Control Panel applet is now hidden by default. It can be shown up again with TweakUI, where the checkbox at "sticpl.cpl - Still Image Devices Control Panel" in "Control Panel" has to be marked.
- The Pentium II processor is now identified as such in System Properties, rather than as a Pentium Pro. It also now identifies support for the MMX instruction set.
Setup[edit | edit source]
Setup gained more aspects of the RTM:
- The setup steps on the left-hand side bar now uses icons instead of numbers.
- Added an additional stage for checking the hard disk during setup and the Microsoft logo in the sidebar bottom.
- The "Memphis Setup" headline has been changed to resemble the RTM.
- "Checking Hard Disk" has been renamed to "Checking Your System".
- Billboard texts have been reworded.
- The file copy progress bar has been moved to the sidebar. The bar where it was earlier has been removed.
Entertainment Shell[edit | edit source]
To use this shell, extract ESHELL.EXE from WIN9X37.CAB, ESDATA.DLL and ESUI.DLL from WIN9X24.CAB, and SHLHOOK.DLL from WIN9X33.CAB, all from the installation media of build 1513, into C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM. Then run ESHELL.EXE.

- Setup has a
WINSETUP.BINthat is not recognized by setup at all times and causes setup to crash on most virtualizers except Microsoft Virtual PC, 86Box, VARCem, and some versions of VMware, due to incorrect emulation of the segment limits of the CPU core. To patch this build to run on any virtualizer, use aWINSETUP.BINfrom an earlier build or the RTM. - Setup might complain about some AOL 3.0 installation files being missing. You can safely skip them.
