Windows 98 build 1998 is the official RTM build of Windows 98, internally known as RC6/1998.6.[1] It was released to manufacturing on 15 May 1998 and was released to the public one month later on 25 June 1998.

This release of Windows 98 is generally perceived as unstable and buggy, such as the 49.7-day limit bug still being present since Windows 95, and a lack of Year 2000 compliance, which was fixed with two Year 2000 updates released in 1999. These updates would be included in the Service Pack 1 release, while other issues would later be addressed in the Second Edition release.

The build's version number "1998" refers to Windows 98's release date.
