Windows 95 build 116 is a Milestone 6 and Beta 1 release candidate build of Windows 95, which was scene leaked by an unknown warez group on 9 June 1994 and was lost. It was found by BetaArchive user sunnyblueman in July 2014 along with builds 73f and 99.[1]
This build is also mentioned in the Release Notes from build 122, along with builds 73g, 99 and 108.
New features and changes[edit | edit source]
WORK.BMP
has been reimplemented as the default desktop background, with the updated bitmap from build 99.- A release notes document has been added to the desktop.
Shell changes[edit | edit source]
- The "New" menu in the right-click menu has renamed "WordPad Document" to "Write Document" and added being able to create a paint picture.
- The Printers folder gained an updated icon.
Application changes[edit | edit source]
- Disk Defragmenter has been removed.
- Font Manager has been added to allow the user to easily configure fonts for the system.
- MAPI Spooler has been readded and now launches properly. It allows the user to connect and send messages from a connected computer.
- A placeholder for the Microsoft Mail 4.0 Note application has been implemented. Attempting to open it will result in the "Create a Briefcase" window.
- Added a program to register the product online via modem.
- The WinBez Multithread Demo that is nearly identical to the same application in Windows NT 3.1 build 196 has been added in this build, but with the functions of opening multiple threads (Beziers) like the Mltithrd application in the same build.
- Info Center has been added to the desktop to send feedback to Microsoft. It requires a modem and email account to use.
Control Panel changes[edit | edit source]
- The Power applet has been removed.
- The Locale applet is renamed to Regional Settings.
- The Messaging Profiles applet has been added, allowing configuration of email profiles on the system.
- A Remote Administration tab was added to the Security applet, allowing the user to enable this feature and set a password.
Setup changes[edit | edit source]
- When launching setup, the "Windows Setup" headline has been renamed "Chicago Setup".
- This is the earliest available build to have setup files packed into CABs.
- On the "Emergency Boot Disk" label prompt, the Windows 4.0 reference has been replaced by Chicago.
- The feature to recover from a failed setup is now named SmartRecovery.
Bugs[edit | edit source]
The Vision964 doesn't work properly with the S3 driver on higher resolutions.
