Windows 7 build 7000 is the official Beta release of Windows 7, released to the public on 7 January 2009.[1] Prior to its release, this build was claimed to have been leaked online on or before 21 December 2008.[2][3] This build was released in English, German, and Japanese.

Changes[edit | edit source]

Setup now uses the boot screen first introduced in build 6941.

Fixes[edit | edit source]

Security updates[edit | edit source]

Several security updates for this build were released between January and April 2009, updating various components to build 7000.1x (GDR) or 7000.4xxx (LDR).[4]

Bugs and quirks[edit | edit source]

Timebomb[edit | edit source]

Unlike other Windows 7 builds, it contains a broken timebomb and can be installed on the current date.

Personalization[edit | edit source]

Similar to build 6936, changing themes is not possible if this build is installed on the current date.

Superbar[edit | edit source]

Similar to build 6956, upgrading to this build will result in an additional Windows Media Player icon being placed on the Superbar if there is only 1 or 2 Windows Media Player icons prior to the upgrade.

Themes[edit | edit source]

If the user changes the titlebar to over 72 size, a bugcheck will occur.

Login sound[edit | edit source]

When the user logs in, the startup sound will play instead of the login sound.

German version[edit | edit source]

This build has three untranslated notifications in the German version, saying "Find an antivirus program online", "Set up Windows Update" and "Update Windows Defender" in English instead of German. The same also applies for the "Send feedback" shortcut on the desktop.

Japanese version[edit | edit source]

The boot screen in the Japanese version is left untranslated, showing "Starting Windows" but in a Japanese compatible font.
