Windows 11 build 26020 is an Insider Preview build of Windows 11 2024 Update. It was released to Windows Insiders in the Canary Channel on 3 January 2024.

New features and changes[edit | edit source]

Voice access[edit | edit source]

  • The voice access in French (France), French (Canada), German, Spanish (Spain) and Spanish (Mexico) have been added.
  • Support of multiple displays have been implemented.
  • The voice shortcut feature, initially implemented in build 23580, has been ported to this build.

Shell[edit | edit source]

  • When turning on energy saver, a new energy saver icon will be shown in the system tray on the taskbar.
  • The Share flyout will only show apps under "Share using" that are tied to the account users are signed into Windows with.
  • The ability to share to or install WhatsApp directly from Share flyout, initially implemented in build 23601, has been ported to this build.
  • The ability to share files as a link has been partially implemented into the Share flyout, although it's currently non-functional and generates placeholder link "http://www.samplelink.com/". It is also disabled by default, but can be activated manually by enabling the 45425284 and 45970624 velocity staging keys.
  • Copilot will no longer rearrange or push desktop icons when launched.

Settings[edit | edit source]

  • A new "Additional Printer Settings" section has been added to printer properties page under Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, including an option to pause and resume print jobs in print queue.
  • The ability to quickly rename the device for identifying sharing to and from with nearby share under System > Nearby sharing, initially implemented in build 23545, has been ported to this build.

Task Manager[edit | edit source]

The process grouping in the Processes page has been improved.

Miscellaneous[edit | edit source]

  • WordPad and the People app are deprecated and will not be installed by default after doing a clean install.
  • Turning on nearby sharing while Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are turned off will automatically turn Wi-Fi and Bluetooth back on and vice versa.

Bugfixes[edit | edit source]

  • Fixed an issue that was causing the Settings to to crash when navigating to System > Power & Battery in build 26016.
  • Fixed an underlying issue that was causing the details pane in File Explorer to unexpectedly take keyboard focus sometimes.
  • Fixed an issue where uncombined taskbar icons were cutting off the title instead of adjusting with the title length.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing Steps Recorder to not launch in the last Germanium builds.
  • Fixed the issue that was causing a loading delay when the Microsoft Start feed is reenabled in Widgets.
  • Fixed the issue that was causing the Widgets Board to not automatically close and reopen when enabling or disabling feeds.

Bugs and quirks[edit | edit source]

General[edit | edit source]

  • Some popular games may not work correctly.
  • Applications may crash if Windows Protected Print Mode is enabled.

Shell[edit | edit source]

  • Text on highlighted items in Microsoft Management Console and some of its snap-ins may have a yellow color.
  • Mica transparency effects on windows may not render.
  • Opening the print queue may show a message saying it can't find the app.
  • The mouse pointer may not be shown when logging in after disconnecting a RDP session.

Settings[edit | edit source]

The Settings app may crash upon launch in certain cases. To work around this issue, run the following PowerShell command as SYSTEM:[1]

Widgets[edit | edit source]

  • Announcements from the Microsoft Start feed may still be shown on the taskbar after the feed is hidden.
  • Keyboard navigation from the settings subpage back to the top-level settings page may be broken.
  • Incorrect spacing and fonts may exist in some settings pages.
