Windows 11 build 23419 is an Insider Preview build of Nickel, the 22H2 development semester of Windows as a service. It was released to Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel on 22 March 2023.
New features and changes[edit | edit source]
Shell[edit | edit source]
- The ability to display seconds in the system clock on the taskbar, previously implemented in build 23403, has been rolled out to a subset of users.
- The small shield overlay to system tray's VPN icon will follow system accent color.
- The "Recommended" section in the Start menu has been renamed to "For you". This change is only available to a subset of users.
- A new Bing Chat button and highlight has been implemented to the search box on the taskbar. This change is only available to a subset of users who sign in with a Microsoft account and get access to the new Bing preview. It can be toggled on manually by enabling the

velocity IDs. - The ability to show website recommendations from browsing history in Start menu has been added (toggleable via Personalization > Start in the Settings app). This feature is disabled by default, but can be toggled on manually by enabling the

File Explorer[edit | edit source]
The Home page in Windows App SDK-based File Explorer has been redesigned based on XAML. Recommendations are now displayed in larger titles and a new animation has been added when opening the page. This feature is disabled by default, but can be toggled on manually by enabling the following velocity IDs:

The performance of loading File Explorer in the case where there's a disconnected network drive visible in the navigation pane has been improved.

- The new dedicated page for viewing USB 4 domains under Bluetooth & devices > USB, initially implemented in build 25314, has been rolled out.
- The new button control for startup app items under App > Startup, initially implemented in build 25247, has been rolled out.
- Several troubleshooters under System > Troubleshoot have been redirected to the new Get Help troubleshooting platform.
Task Manager[edit | edit source]
The ability to generate a live kernel dump in Task Manager, initially introduced in build 25188 and previously rolled out in build 25276, has been added.
Input[edit | edit source]
The changes to cloud and integrated search suggestions in Simplified Chinese IME, initially introduced in build 25217, have been implemented.
Miscellaneous[edit | edit source]
- The ability to open Snipping Tool by pressing PrtScn has been added (toggleable via Accessibility > Keyboard in the Settings app.)
- The ability to open Snipping Tool's new screen snipping UI by pressing ⊞ Win+⇧ Shift+R has been added. This feature is disabled by default, but can be toggled on manually by enabling the

velocity ID. - The performance impact of startup apps has been reduced in order to improve the experience on logon after booting up.
- Virtual Memory ranges which are marked by a
KBUGCHECK_REASON_CALLBACK_ROUTINE
will be added to kernel-generated minidumps after a bugcheck.

- Fixed an issue that was causing the show hidden icons flyout to open behind things like OneNote flyout and live captions.

- Fixed an issue that was causing Narrator to read the position before the name on system tray icons.
- Fixed an issue that was causing the redesigned in-app help page in Voice access to not include all commands and the supplementary information accurately.
- Fixed the issue that was causing live captions to not work for Chinese Traditional on ARM64 devices.
Task Manager[edit | edit source]
Fixed an issue where some of the details in the Performance page wouldn't display properly until users resized the window or changed pages back and forth.
Bugs and quirks[edit | edit source]
File Explorer[edit | edit source]
- The access keys in the XAML context menu may appear inconsistently if no button is pressed. Pressing a button will cause them to reappear.
- The following issues will only apply if the file recommendations feature is enabled:
- Clicking on the Share command may bring up the Windows share sheet (non-OneDrive).
- Clicking on the "Open File Location" command may pop an error dialog.
- Clicking on the "Remove from list" command may result in no actions.
Settings[edit | edit source]
- When adding a language via the Language & Region page, the installation progress may become hidden, and users may not see install completion for enhanced speech recognition.
- The Language & Region page may not offer the necessary speech recognition language support for live captions for up to an hour after first login.

- The enhanced speech recognition support may not be installed correctly through the Language & Region page in the Settings app on ARM64 devices.
- Captioning performance may be degraded in non-English languages and missing out-of-language filtering in non-English (United States) languages.
Safe mode[edit | edit source]
- Quick Settings and date/time clock on the taskbar may be missing due to the
Capability Access Manager Service
service not running. - Clicking Bluetooth & devices and Personalization pages may crash the Settings app due to an overrun of a stack-based buffer
