Windows 10 build 14316 (rs1_release) is the eleventh Insider Preview build of Windows 10 Anniversary Update. This build was released to Windows Insiders in the Fast Ring on 6 April 2016.
New features and changes[edit | edit source]
Windows Subsystem for Linux (beta)[edit | edit source]
- This build introduces Windows Subsystem for Linux.
Cortana improvements[edit | edit source]
- Cortana is now easier to set-up. This works by the OS downloading the necessary speech language to the system.
- Cross-device features have been introduced.
Skype UWP Preview[edit | edit source]
- A new Skype UWP Preview app is included, replacing the Skype video app, as well as removing the "Get Skype" app seen in previous builds.
Action Center improvements[edit | edit source]
- You can now sort the notifications by priority to be one of three levels: Normal, High or Top.
- You can also now adjust how many notifications are visible per app.
- The user can access these settings by navigating to Settings -> System -> Notifications & Actions.
- The old action center has been removed.
Personalization improvements[edit | edit source]
- You can now toggle light and dark mode (in some UWP apps) by going to Settings -> Personalization -> Colors.
- A new option was added to show accent colors on title bars in addition to the option to show your accent color on the Start menu, the taskbar and Action Center.
Other[edit | edit source]
- Updated the entire emoji design.
- A new Connect app was introduced. It allows users to project their mobile device screen to the PC without needing a dock or Miracast adapter. It also allows other Miracast-capable PCs to project to other PCs as well.
- Virtual Desktop now allows you to pin a window so it's available on every desktop. It also supports multiple monitors.
- Updated the installing updates screen.
- The Battery Saver page in Settings was simply renamed to be just simply Battery.
- The Detailed Battery Use page was updated so users can manage the per-app background settings inline without going to a second page. A new background settings option was added called "Managed by Windows". When this option is turned on, not only will the app stop running in the background, but it will temporarily turn off apps with high battery drain that the user hasn't used in a while.
- Added an option in Windows Update settings to adjust active hours. Windows Update will not install updates during the user's selected hours.
- Added the ability to post comments on Feedback Hub.
- Changed all of the older placeholder download icons on the Start menu from version 1511 to a simple downward facing arrow with a line.
- Added a QR code to the system crash screen. It links to Microsoft's website for diagnosing blue screen errors.
Bugs[edit | edit source]
- The Visual Studio emulator for Windows 10 Mobile and Hololens will fail with the message "An authentication error has occurred. The Local Security Authority cannot be contacted".
- Sometimes UWP apps do not appear on the taskbar when minimized. They also do not appear in the ALT+TAB switcher or Task View. If this happens, the only way you can maximize these apps is via Task Manager. You can also restart
explorer.exe
to fix this problem. - Narrator and other screen reader apps can't read the menu options in Feedback Hub. It also can't read the text in Cortana and other apps.
- Large downloads in Microsoft Edge have a chance to get stuck at 99% completion. The workaround to this bug is to rename the file in your downloads folder after closing the browser.
- Sometimes when you attempt to enable Developer Mode, it may crash the Settings app.
- Some app notifications may only show the icon, however the full text of the notification will be visible in the Action Center.
