Talk:Microsoft Cairo

Is this supposed to be here? (Made when the user "Microsft Windows XP", yes that's his username, did the hall of shame version of this.) --LilShootDawg (talk) 18:53, 22 May 2017 (BST)

Yes, it is --Meow2004 (talk) 19:27, 22 May 2017 (BST)

Windows Cairo isn't a codename of Windows NT 4.0, Wikipedia says " Cairo was the codename for a project at Microsoft from 1991 to 1996. Its charter was to build technologies for a next-generation operating system that would fulfill Bill Gates' vision of "information at your fingertips." Cairo never shipped, although portions of its technologies have since appeared in other products." I don't think this should be here without a build list if there even is enough evidence for a build list. (Sorry for the long post) --LilShootDawg (talk) 17:41, 15 September 2017 (BST)

Breaking the Guidelines?[edit source]

The page as written by "Microsoft Windows XP" (https://betawiki.net/index.php?title=Microsoft_Cairo&oldid=15724) also breaks the guidelines, so I would recommend a revision of the page. That includes claims about screenshot fakery that isn't relevant to a general topic page. —Foxlet (talk) 20:43, 26 September 2017 (BST)

Thanks for cleaning this up. --LilShootDawg (talk) 19:08, 26 September 2017 (BST)

3.5.841.1???[edit source]

I'm really curious as to when this was leaked, as claimed by this page, and where it came from, etc.--Overdoze (talk) 08:39, 2 September 2018 (BST)

I think 841 is a mislabel as no build was leaked with that number, only 854. 854 was leaked by BA member Darkstar on May 14th, 2010. You can check for more info here, here, and here. --ATeamInc (talk) 10:15, 2 September 2018 (BST)
Actually I have just noticed that build 854.1 is mentioned in the NT 3.5 page. This wiki really needs LOTS of proper documentation and revision, much like the Longhorn/Vista pages which I am currently working on. Someday in the future I might reach NT 3.5, but I am not sure yet. Don't expect to see me until late next year though, as unfortunately my school has come. --ATeamInc (talk) 10:26, 2 September 2018 (BST)

Well then 841 should be removed from this page since it doesn't exist. 854 should remain on the NT 3.5x page IMO.--Overdoze (talk) 10:41, 2 September 2018 (BST)

Why is 297 confirmed?[edit source]

IMO unleaked = unconfirmed. I want to hear other opinions about this. ATeamInc (talk) 08:47, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

Is Cairo really a different project than NT 4.0?[edit source]

There are official presentations coming from Microsoft calling the upcoming NT release "Windows NT "Cairo"". The mentioned presentation is included on the German Windows 95 build 499 CD-ROM. Xyz (talk)

NT 4.0 is nowhere near what Cairo was supposed to be. So yes, they're different projects. --Ryuzaki (talk | contribs) 02:30, 18 November 2021 (UTC)

Wrong picture[edit source]

You keep putting the login screen into the infobox, right? See the Windows 11 page, they have the desktop. Why then? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.180.102.18 (talkcontribs)

WTF??? WinInsider (talk) 00:09, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
Possibly a Vandal or an guy thinking that is the desktop — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.180.102.18 (talkcontribs)
Probably, they put login screen picture, because desktops of Cairo and NT4 builds with the same number are very similar, and some people may get confused, if they see desktop picture in this page. SeregaWin555 (talk) 02:21, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
Because nobody ever said the screenshot in the infobox must be a desktop. The most distinctive feature of Cairo 1175 is the login screen, therefore that is what's in the infobox. --Ryuzaki (talk | contribs) 02:26, 18 November 2021 (UTC)

Cairo Design Environment[edit source]

I do not think that "Cairo Design Environment" was actually planned a a SKU, but rather a set of programming tools that could be installed on Cairo, something like Visual Studio. It could even be that "Cairo Desktop Environment" is some kind of predecessor of Visual Studio. - 212.23.130.206 (talk) 09:03, 30 May 2022 (UTC)
