Microsoft Office 2010 is a version of Microsoft Office, which was released to manufacturing on 15 April 2010; it was subsequently made available through Business customers with Software Assurance on 27 April 2010, and later to retail on 15 June 2010. It includes newer PowerPoint animation effects, new splash screens, and the Ribbon interface is now available in every application. It also introduced the Backstage UI which consolidates document management tasks into a single location along with replacing the Office button with the File tab.

The final build number is 14.0.4760. Many torrents and even OEMs distributed build 4734 (which is not the final RTM build), as "RTM".

Office 2010 is the last version of Microsoft Office to support Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista SP1 and Windows Vista SP2.

System requirements[edit | edit source]

Office 2010 is the first version to have an x64 variant, though the x64 variant has some limitations. The x86 version only officially supports Windows XP SP3 or newer and Windows Vista SP1 or newer, while the x64 version only officially supports Windows Vista SP1 or newer, though MSXML 6 or later is required to work on Windows XP SP2[1][a] as well as Windows XP Professional x64 Edition.[2] Using Extended Kernel, this version can also theoretically run on Windows 2000, though some bugs may occur (like Office 2007). Unofficially, this is the last version of Office that supports Windows 2000. Officially, this is the last version of Microsoft Office to support Windows XP SP3 and Windows Vista SP1-SP2 as the following version, Microsoft Office 2013 only supports Windows 7 or later, with Windows 11 being unsupported.

This is the last version of Microsoft Office to support processors without PAE, SSE2 and NX.

This is the last version of Microsoft Office to run correctly on Windows XP SP2 and Windows XP Professional x64 Edition with MSXML 6.

In addition, the following is required:

  • A 500 MHz processor; 1 GHz for Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2010
  • 256 MB of RAM; 1 GB for Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2010; 512 MB recommended
  • Graphics: 1024×768; 1024x576 for Home and Student, Home and Business; DirectX 9.0c graphics card and 64 MB of video memory recommended
  • Internet access required for product activation
  • Mouse and keyboard; stylus and touchscreen for certain inking functionality
  • Audio output device required for multimedia effects; microphone required for speech recognition

Click to Run[edit | edit source]

Office 2010 includes a new "Click to Run" (C2R) installer as an alternative to the old MSI installer. It is used in the Starter, Home and Business and Home and Student SKUs.
