DiskPart is a disk partitoning tool included in Microsoft Windows. It was introduced in the Recovery Console of Windows 2000 as a replacement of the fdisk.exe
utility from MS-DOS, where it used a text-based user interface similar to the partitioning stage of Windows Setup. After the Recovery Console was replaced in Windows Vista by the Windows Preinstallation Environment, DiskPart was redesigned as a command-line interface tool instead, and was also introduced to regular Windows installations.
Windows 8 build 8148's and its server counterpart's versions of DiskPart include a notice about the deprecation of the tool, which was removed, however, towards the Consumer Preview.
