Windows Vista build 5840.16384 is the official Launch Preview build of Windows Vista, released to evaluators in late October 2006.[1] The build (which additionally includes debugging symbols for the NetBIOS system driver) was initially shared by warez group BetaInsiders on 27 October 2006, and an unmodified copy sourced from an evaluation kit released by Microsoft was later uploaded by Chinese website BetaWorld on 2 January 2024.[2]
It is the last known build to use the canyon wallpaper by default, and include the sound scheme from Windows XP. The bug relating to upgrading from an earlier version of Windows to build 5824 has been fixed.
