Windows Vista build 5824 (vista_rtm) is an internal RTM escrow build of Windows Vista. It was shared by BetaArchive forum member marcoguy on 19 December 2016.[1]
Prior to its publication, Windows IT Pro author Paul Thurrott referenced this build in an article (along with build 5840.16384) that describes a bug which prevented successful build upgrades,[2] which is discussed later in this article.
Bugs[edit | edit source]
Out-of-box experience upgrade deadlock[edit | edit source]
This build features a bug where the out-of-box experience would deadlock at the start of the WinSAT assessment if the associated device was upgraded from an earlier version of Windows, leaving the user with no other choice than to either restart the computer or terminate the msoobe.exe
process through means of command-line tools or via the Task Manager in order to complete installation.
According to Paul Thurrott, the build was released internally as an RTM escrow build and was initially slated to qualify as a finalized product; however, the aforementioned bug resulted in build 5840.16384 being compiled, which included a bugfix that resolved this issue.[2] The latter build would later serve as the official Launch Preview, which was externally released to evaluators and computer training organizations.
