Windows Vista build 5231.2 is the official October 2005 Community Technology Preview build of Windows Vista, which was released on 17 October 2005. This build was compiled from the winmain_idx03 branch, suggesting that it was recompiled several times.

It is the last available build of Windows Vista to use the placeholder Windows XP-like design for the Start menu, as well as the final build to use "Start" text and the white Windows flag on the Start button (if the Windows Classic theme isn't being used).

Bugs and quirks[edit | edit source]

Setup[edit | edit source]

The Starting installation... text when launching setup on Windows appears to be distorted on higher resolutions such as 1920x1080.

Migration Wizard[edit | edit source]

The following bugs are internal known issues found in MIGWIZREADME.TXT in the sources folder.

  • Currently, only disconnected migration is supported.
  • The Drive Exclusion page has no effect on the items to be migrated.
  • To increase performance on machines with razzle environments, you can have the docs agent skip scanning all drives (which can take several minutes on some machines) by setting the environment variable MIG_DOCS_MINSCAN=1 before running the wizard.
