Windows 95 build 484 is the first June Test Release build of Windows 95.

NFO file[edit | edit source]

The following NFO file was included as part of the PWA release.[1]

NFO contents

Changes[edit | edit source]

  • The label on the boot screen now reads June Test Release instead of May Test Release.
  • The safe to shutdown screen has been changed to resemble the RTM, which has been used in all subsequent Windows 9x builds. In particular, the text "You can now safely turn off your computer" was changed to the famous "It's now safe to turn off your computer" message. The font was also changed as well, giving it a slightly bolder appearance.
  • The setup billboards now match with those seen in the final version.

Bugs[edit | edit source]

Checked/Debug version[edit | edit source]

The checked/debug version of this build has a small bug, in which the second part of the installation freezes at the moment the "Main" folder is created. In order to fix this bug, do the following:

  1. Install the build as usual.
  2. Switch to safe mode.
  3. Open Registry Editor.
  4. Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce.
  5. Change the string value of Wallpaper to None (if the Wallpaper value isn't present, it can be created).
  6. Delete all parameters in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce except (Default) and Wallpaper.
  7. Reboot.

On some configurations, this build will also freeze during shutdown, either on the desktop or the shutdown screen. If this happens, consider powering off manually.
