Windows 8 build 8118 (fbl_core2_sfs) is a post-Developer Preview build of Windows 8, which was shared on 25 December 2020.

This is the last available build that features the Games Explorer in the Windows 7 start menu (hidden starting with build 8128), and the last that plays the startup sound by default (until Windows 11 build 21370).

New features and changes[edit | edit source]

Setup[edit | edit source]

  • If launching SysPrep whilst the system is redpilled, a few screens similar to when install.wim was manually deployed would appear - such as the EULA.

Storage Spaces[edit | edit source]

This is the first available build to include the Storage Spaces feature.

Bugs and quirks[edit | edit source]

Running in VMware[edit | edit source]

To install or run this build in VMware Workstation, the hardware compatibility version must be set to versions 8.x/9.x/10.x; otherwise, a bugcheck will occur.

OOBE background[edit | edit source]

Like builds 8032 to 8112, this build's Windows 7 OOBE background is in monochrome on the left, and on the right, it is entirely black. This bug lasts until build 8123.
