Windows 7 build 6910 is a pre-beta build of Windows 7, which was shared by BetaArchive user marcoguy on 19 December 2016.[1]

New features and changes[edit | edit source]

User interface[edit | edit source]

The design of the Start button has been slightly changed to no longer include a slight bevel around it. The Quick Launch bar has been disabled by default, and it is now possible to transfer files between computers over Bluetooth.

Branding[edit | edit source]

The default wallpaper has been replaced by a betta fish (in itself, a pun on the word "beta") puffing out seven bubbles.

Windows Recovery Environment[edit | edit source]

The Windows Boot Manager will now automatically run the configured Windows Recovery Environment boot entry (with an additional flag set to invoke Startup Repair) in the event of a repeated boot failure.

Bugs and quirks[edit | edit source]

Appearance and Personalization[edit | edit source]

  • When switching between Aero themes, the "tada" sound effect will get cut off.
  • The icons for Windows Classic and High Contrast themes don't display properly.
  • The Windows Classic theme uses thicker borders by default.

Places bar[edit | edit source]

The places bar of the legacy Common File Dialog from Windows 2000 and Windows XP, which was originally introduced in Windows 95 without the bar, appears to be disabled by default, but the state of the NoPlacesBar DWORD in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Comdlg32 and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Comdlg32 or the "Hide the common dialog places bar" group policy in either User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Explorer > Common Open File Dialog or Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Explorer > Common Open File Dialog has not yet been verified. The Group Policy description mentions old WordPad as an example.
