Windows 11 build 25346 is the eighteenth Insider Preview and the seventeenth available client build of Zinc, the 23H2 development semester of Windows as a service. It was released to Windows Insiders in the Canary Channel on 19 April 2023, along with its server counterpart and build 23440.

New features and changes[edit | edit source]

File Explorer[edit | edit source]

The update to the XAML-based user interface of the Details pane, initially implemented in build 23430, has been backported to this build. This feature is disabled by default, but can be toggled on manually by enabling the 38613007 velocity ID.

Shell[edit | edit source]

  • The redesigned Windows Firewall Security Alert dialog, initially implemented in build 25267 and later disabled by default in build 25276, has been re-enabled.
  • The ability to suggest and remember customized Snap Assist layouts for specific groups of applications, initially implemented in build 23430, has been backported to this build. This feature is disabled by default, but can be toggled on manually by enabling the 41863571 and 42589465 velocity IDs.
  • The ability to hide the date and time in the system tray has been added, which is togglable via Time & language > Date & time in the Settings app. As part of this change, the notification badges will be shown permanently (show as "0" in grey color when no new notifications available). These changes are disabled by default, but can be toggled on manually by enabling the 41437381 velocity ID.
  • The ability to open the Search flyout when hovering over the search icon on the taskbar has been implemented. This feature is disabled by default, but can be toggled on manually by enabling the 43572692 and 43572857 velocity IDs, and then toggling the switch under Personalization > Taskbar in the Settings app.
  • The connection bar in Remote Desktop sessions has been redesigned to align with the design aesthetics of Windows 11.
  • A new Diagnose network problems option has been added to the context menu on network icon in the system tray.
  • A new option for sending a local file to user's own email address when sharing it to Outlook contacts has been added to the Share flyout.

Settings[edit | edit source]

  • The support of Content Adaptive Brightness Control (configurable via System > Display > Brightness & color) has been introduced to battery powered devices.
  • A new "Presence sensing" subpage has been added under the Privacy & security page for managing presence sensor privacy settings.
  • The option to turn on/off HDR or HDR video streaming when the device is running on battery has been added under System > Display > HDR.
  • A new, non-functional "End Task" option has been added under Privacy & security > For developers to enable the new "End task" option in the app's context menu on the taskbar (initially implemented in build 25300.)

Narrator[edit | edit source]

The Narrator detailed reading feature has been updated to support Traditional Chinese (Taiwan).

ReFS[edit | edit source]

  • The /devvol flag to format a ReFS volume as a developer volume has been renamed to /devdrv.
  • The ability to enable or disable an antivirus filter by using fsutil devdrv enable /allowAV and fsutil devdrv enable /disallowAV respectively has been added.

Bugs and quirks[edit | edit source]

File Explorer[edit | edit source]

  • The access keys in the XAML context menu may appear inconsistently if no button is pressed. Pressing a button will cause them to reappear.
  • Clicking on the Share command may bring up the Windows share sheet (non-OneDrive) when the file recommendations feature is enabled.
  • Explorer might occasionally crash when the new XAML-based Details pane are enabled.

Shell[edit | edit source]

Right-clicking a file or folder while pressing ⇧ Shift may not open the legacy context menu in certain cases.

Settings[edit | edit source]

The Language & Region page may not offer the necessary speech recognition language support for live captions for up to an hour after first login.

Live captions[edit | edit source]

Captioning performance may be degraded in non-English languages and missing out-of-language filtering in non-English (United States) languages.

Safe mode[edit | edit source]

  • Quick Settings and date/time clock on the taskbar may be missing due to the Capability Access Manager Service service not running.
  • Clicking Bluetooth & devices and Personalization pages may crash the Settings app due to an overrun of a stack-based buffer 0xc0000409.
