Windows 11 build 25267 is the fifth Insider Preview and the fourth available client build of Zinc, the 23H2 development semester of Windows as a service. It was released to Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel on 14 December 2022, along with its server counterpart.
New features and changes[edit | edit source]
Shell[edit | edit source]
- The corner radius of the search box on the taskbar and the Start menu (when typing) has been changed with a larger one. The old design is still used in Start menu when not typing.
- The Windows Firewall Security Alert dialog has been updated to match the design aesthetics of Windows 11.
Settings[edit | edit source]
The error code under Windows Update > Update history can now be selectable.
Miscellaneous[edit | edit source]
- The screen reader has been updated to exclude the words "system state" when setting focus to each of the Quick Settings icons on the taskbar.
- When moving the focus set to an app icon on the taskbar by pressing Alt+⇧ Shift+← or →, Narrator will say that it has been moved.
- The inbox version of Windows Subsystem for Linux has been removed.
- Starting with this build, users of the Pro SKU can no longer connect to a remote share by using guest credentials by default.

- Fixed an issue that was causing the Cast to Device feature to not work properly in certain cases.
- Fixed an issue where restartable copies of a file with alternate data streams were hanging frequently.

- Fixed an issue that was causing the Bluetooth section of Quick Settings to crash sometimes.
- Fixed a high hitting

crash. - Fixed an issue where using "Browse for Folder" from an app in File Explorer would only show Desktop and no other folders.
- The following issues will only apply if the search box on the taskbar is enabled:
- Fixed the issue that was causing the search box which appeared to be floating on the desktop when changing the primary monitor or plugging in an external display.
- Fixed the issue that was causing the text in the search box to be clipped on the bottom when using increased text scaling.

- Fixed an issue where clicking the notification received the first time users press Alt+⇧ Shift would unexpectedly open a Command Prompt window.
- Fixed an issue that was causing the first candidate item to be invisible or clipped sometimes in the Simplified Chinese IME candidate window.
Bugs and quirks[edit | edit source]
General[edit | edit source]
- A black screen may appear when resuming from sleep or hibernate on certain ARM64 devices.
- Using Windows Hello to sign in with facial recognition may not work on certain ARM64 devices.
- The Live Captions feature may not work in certain cases.
- The system may take longer than expected to upgrade to this build in certain cases.
Shell[edit | edit source]
- Various UI elements in apps may disappear and reappear repeatedly.
- On some locales, the default font used in several UI elements (such as the date and time on the taskbar) may change to regular Segoe UI instead of Segoe UI Variable.
- The taskbar may sometimes be cropped in half when using the tablet-optimized taskbar.
- The following issues will only apply if the search box on the taskbar is enabled:
- The search box may not render correctly and display visual artifacts.
- Several layout issues with the text in the search box may appear on right-to-left locales.
- Some Japanese IME candidate items may be clipped inside the search box.
Task Manager[edit | edit source]
- Filtering by publisher name may not match correctly on the Processes page.
- Some services may not show in the Services page after filtering is applied.
- If a new process is starting while a filter is set, then that process may appear for a split second in the filtered list.
- Some dialogs may not render in the correct theme when applied from the Settings page.
- The data content area of the Processes page may flash once when theme changes are applied in the Settings page.
- The Task Manager may not display light and dark content correctly with unreadable text when the "Choose your mode" option under Personalization > Colors in the Settings app is set to Custom.
- The Startup apps page may not list any apps in certain cases.
Widgets[edit | edit source]
- On right-to-left locales, the content may animate out of view before the Widgets board resizes when clicking to expanded view of the Widgets board.
- Pressing the Expand/Collapse button on the top right side of the widgets board may cause it to get stuck and then crash.
- The widgets board may get stuck open in an invisible state for users in certain regions, causing clicks on the left side of the screen to not work.
- Pressing ⊞ Win+D may resolve this issue.
Safe mode[edit | edit source]
- Enabling the search box/icon on the taskbar may cause
explorer.exe
to hang or crash. - Quick Settings and date/time clock on the taskbar may be missing due to the
Capability Access Manager Service
service not running. - Clicking Bluetooth & devices and Personalization pages may crash the Settings app due to an overrun of a stack-based buffer
