Windows 11 build 25227.1000 is the twenty-eighth Insider Preview and the twenty-second available client build of Copper, the 23H1 development semester of Windows as a service. It was released to Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel on 19 October 2022, along with its server counterpart.

New features and changes

Widgets

The following changes to Widgets board's header have been introduced to a subset of users, but its rollout can be toggled on manually by enabling the 40772499 velocity ID, although it may not be enabled in several time:

• The visual appearance has been redesigned with new icons.
• Two layouts for the header placement (banner or sidebar) are available.
• Several shortcuts to personalized news feed have been added.
• The digital clock has been removed.

Tablet-optimized taskbar

• The ability to expand the tablet-optimized taskbar by swiping up from within it with a pen has been added.
• The touch gestures feature and their animations with the tablet-optimized taskbar have been improved to work better with the touch.

Shell

• The ability to show a dot-style notification badge on the Start menu's user profile icon, initially introduced in build 25217, has been rolled out to a subset of users. It can be toggled on manually by enabling the 36435151 velocity ID.
• When resetting the device, the screen displayed while it's resetting will be black in order to be consistent with the upgrade screens.

Input

• The change to support the use of the clipboard history on password fields, initially introduced in build 25206, has been rolled out to all users.
• The ability to contribute custom voice clips to Microsoft even if on-device speech recognition is used has been added.

Settings

• The ability to sync voice typing settings, automatic punctuation and voice typing launcher across all devices signed in using the same Microsoft account, which can be toggled under Accounts > Windows backup > Remember my preferences > Accessibility, has been added.
• A new dialog has been added to warn users of potential data loss if they elect to change the partition style of their storage drive under System > Storage > Disks & volumes > Disk properties.
• The ability to show gateway information in the network details summary under the Ethernet and Wi-Fi property pages has been added.

Bugfixes

General

• Fixed an issue which was causing the 0xC1900101 error when upgrading to recent builds.
• Fixed an issue which was causing the MULTIPROCESSOR_CONFIGURATION_NOT_SUPPORTED bugcheck when upgrading to recent builds on certain devices.
• Fixed an issue where the ability to interact with certain games using the mouse would be lost over time.
• Fixed an issue where the multiplication sign × wasn't displaying correctly in the Yu Gothic font family on high resolution displays.
• Fixed a couple issues causing certain apps to crash in recent builds.
• Addressed an issue which could lead to performance degradation when using Windows Mixed Reality as well as performance monitoring tools which leveraged the Microsoft-Windows-DxgKrnl ETW provider.
• Fixed an issue where recording devices with "Listen to this device" enabled might not show in the volume mixer when they were playing sound.
• Fixed an issue where that was causing the Gaming Services to crash while trying to play certain games.
• Fixed an issue which was causing Miracast to unexpectedly not be able to connect.
• Fixed an issue which was preventing the system from booting on Snapdragon 778G/888 processors with the hypvm feature on.

Tablet-optimized taskbar

• Fixed an issue that was causing explorer.exe to crash while switching between apps on the tablet-optimized taskbar.
• Fixed an issue that was causing Start's touch gesture to follow user's finger incorrectly with the tablet-optimized taskbar.

File Explorer

• Fixed an issue where scrolling to the bottom of the navigation pane using a mouse wheel and trying to scroll back up it would get stuck at the bottom.
• Fixed an issue that was causing certain apps to hang when opening the Open File Dialog or Save File Dialog.
• Fixed an issue that was causing the divider lines to overlap entries in the navigation pane.

Shell

• Fixed an issue that was causing explorer.exe to crash when dragging icons in the system tray.
• Fixed an issue where right-clicking system tray icons would cause the auto-hidden taskbar to hide incorrectly.
• Fixed an issue that was causing the show hidden icons panel in the system tray to block context menus opened after it.
• Fixed an issue that was preventing Quick Settings from working when opening it from the system tray for the first time.
• Fixed an issue that was preventing system tray icons from updating in real time.
• Fixed an issue where dragging content across an open Start menu folder could cause a crash.

Search

• Addressed an issue where Search might not respond when clicking on the search icon in the taskbar.
• Fixed an issue where opening images from search would unexpectedly open them in Print.

Settings

Fixed an issue that was causing the size of UWP app icons under Apps > Startup to be too small.

Task Manager

Fixed an issue where dragging Task Manager from the bottom area of the title bar to move the window would not work correctly.

Bugs and quirks

General

• The audio may stop working in certain cases.
• Several apps may crash on launch in certain cases.
• Users may encounter a SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION bugcheck with win32kfull.sys when interacting with UI components in WinPE or WinRE.

Tablet-optimized taskbar

• The taskbar may sometimes flash when transitioning between desktop posture and tablet posture.
• The taskbar may sometimes stay stuck in the expanded state instead of dismissing to collapsed state when using the bottom right edge gesture to see Quick Settings.

Shell

• Various UI elements in apps may disappear and reappear repeatedly.
• The text cursor may appear white on white when hovering over text fields.
• On some locales, the default font used in several UI elements (such as the date and time on the taskbar) may change to regular Segoe UI instead of Segoe UI Variable.

Virtualization

• Users may experience a UNSUPPORTED_PROCESSOR bugcheck when booting Windows in VMware on a Hyper-V enabled host with 2 or more cores allocated.
• The system may fail to boot in VMware with attached network adapters.

Widgets

In right-to-left display languages, the content may animate out of view before the Widgets board resizes when clicking to expanded view of the Widgets board.

Safe mode

• Quick Settings and date/time clock on the taskbar may be missing due to the Capability Access Manager Service service not running.
• Clicking Bluetooth & devices and Personalization pages may crash the Settings app due to an overrun of a stack-based buffer 0xc0000409.
