Windows 11 build 25169 is the seventeenth Insider Preview and the eleventh available client build of Copper, the 23H1 development semester of Windows as a service. It was released to Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel on 28 July 2022, along with its server counterpart.

New features and changes[edit | edit source]

Settings[edit | edit source]

  • The new Spotlight theme under the Personalization page, initially introduced in build 25140 and then available in build 25163, has been rolled out.
    • This feature is only available to a subset of users. To enable it, run ViveTool from an elevated Command Prompt window to enable the 39258685 velocity ID.
  • The support for uninstalling apps which have inter-dependencies, repairing and modifying Win32 apps have been added under the Installed apps page.

Input[edit | edit source]

  • The U.S. English handwriting model has been updated to be faster and more accurate.
  • The key repeat rate for the traditional and touch keyboard layout as well as the default touch keyboard layout has been changed to 20 keys per second.

Miscellaneous[edit | edit source]

  • The multi-app kiosk mode has been added to allow users to select a set of allowable apps to run on the device, while all other functionalities are blocked. This mode can be enabled using PowerShell and WMI Bridge.
  • Starting with this build, devices with diagnostic data turned on and joined to an AAD tenant with billing address in the EU or EFTA will be enrolled in the Windows diagnostic data processor configuration.
  • The Windows Security app version is now displayed in Windows Security settings under About.

Bugfixes[edit | edit source]

General[edit | edit source]

  • Fixed an issue believed to be the root cause of bugcheck when opening and copying files from network locations recently.
  • Fixed an issue which could cause desynced audio when recording game play with the Xbox Game Bar.
  • Fixed an issue leading to error code 0x80004005 when using the network troubleshooter.
  • Some adjustments have been made to fix an issue where the scrollbar in certain places (like File Explorer) was unexpectedly wide when using high DPI scaling.
  • Fixed an issue believed to be the root cause of Windows Security saying standard hardware security wasn't supported on devices where it was actually supported, as well as showing a warning in the taskbar but not showing any issues when Windows Security was launched.

File Explorer[edit | edit source]

  • Fixed an issue leading to the Azure Information Protection context menu entry unexpectedly showing with the name Microsoft.Azip.RightClick after an upgrade.

Taskbar[edit | edit source]

  • Fixed an explorer.exe crash that was preventing taskbar from loading when launching Microsoft Teams meetings sometimes.
  • Fixed a couple explorer.exe crashes related to taskbar overflow.

Start[edit | edit source]

Fixed an issue that was removing the "More" button in Start's Recommended section.

Settings[edit | edit source]

Fixed an issue where after using the reveal password button in the Wi-Fi section of Quick Settings, the text field might unexpectedly lose focus.

Bugs and quirks[edit | edit source]

General[edit | edit source]

  • Some games that use Easy Anti-Cheat may crash or cause the device to bugcheck.
  • SQL Server Management Studio may fail to launch.

Shell[edit | edit source]

  • The Up button next to File Explorer address bar may be misaligned with other buttons.
    • This issue will only be encountered if the tabbed browsing feature is enabled on the device.
  • Launching File Explorer when using dark mode may unexpectedly show the body of File Explorer in light mode.
  • The left-half of the File Explorer title bar may not be draggable via mouse or touch.
  • On some locales, the default font used in several UI elements (such as the date and time on the taskbar) may change to regular Segoe UI instead of Segoe UI Variable.
  • The language bar may not be displayed on the taskbar in some cases.

Widgets[edit | edit source]

  • Widgets preferences, such as temperature units and pinned widgets, may unexpectedly reset to default in some cases.
  • The Notification badge number may appear misaligned on the taskbar.
  • The Notification banner for some badging may not appear in the Widgets board in some cases.

Safe mode[edit | edit source]

  • Quick Settings and date/time clock on the taskbar may be missing due to the Capability Access Manager Service service not running.
  • Clicking Bluetooth & devices and Personalization pages may crash the Settings app due to an overrun of a stack-based buffer 0xc0000409.
