Windows 10 build 21318 is the seventh Insider Preview build of Cobalt, the 21H2 development semester of Windows as a service. This build was released on 19 February 2021 to all Windows Insiders on the Dev Channel.
Changes[edit | edit source]
Some of these changes are only available to a small group of Insiders, meaning that not everyone will see them right out of the box, and will roll out to the rest of Insiders soon.
- The clipboard history now has the option for text to be pasted without its original format.
- The touch keyboard improvements first introduced in build 21301.1000 under a controlled rollout are now available for all Windows Insiders on the Dev Channel.
- x64 emulation for ARM devices no longer requires installing a separate preview version of the ARM64 C++ redistributable package.
- Smoothness of motion while using Magnifier and transitioning between mouse and keyboard focus has been improved.
- The notification toast when pairing supported Bluetooth devices now stays a bit longer, giving users more time to interact with it before disappearing.
- The news and interests' taskbar button will now show different content depending on the available space in the taskbar when the "Show icon and text" layout is used. If there's enough, it will show the temperature and weather. Otherwise, only the temperature will appear.
- The copyright date in
winver
has been removed. - The string shown during the upgrade to this build has been changed from "Don't turn off your PC. This will take a while" to "Please keep your computer on and plugged in."
- When installing an update, the string now reads "Updates are underway to keep things running smoothly."
Bugs and quirks[edit | edit source]
News and interests[edit | edit source]
- The taskbar button might show no content after the primary monitor is changed.
- The flyout may not be available when signing into an account without internet access. Reconnecting to the network will restore it.
- Sometimes the flyout cannot be dismissed with pen.
General[edit | edit source]
- The update process to this build has a chance of hanging for extended periods of time.
- The reliability of the Start menu and other modern apps may be affected in this build.
- Domain networks appear with the wrong firewall profile, which may block some local network services. As a workaround, configure the network as private to allow local network traffic.
- Chinese text for the lunar calendar in the clock and calendar flyout is no longer displaying properly[source?]
- Live preview doesn't work for pinned site tabs on some machines, a gray window is seen instead of the intended content.
- When Windows Insiders upgraded to build 21322, the Windows Update page in Settings would show the feature update as both optional and required, where the string for the latter was broken.
- When launching some games, there is a chance that the system will crash with an
HYPERVISOR_ERROR
GSOD. - It is not recommended to install this build in devices with Bitdefender installed, as these may experience black screens and/or Windows Explorer crashes.
- There is a chance of encountering a bug check with the error code
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
if you switch user accounts and then log back into the account that was originally logged in. - After upgrading to this build, Remote Desktop Connections to Azure Active Directory-joined devices will fail. To workaround this issue, merge the following to the registry:
